Speciality Chemicals: The Specialty Chemical business of Jubilant Ingrevia manufactures Pyridine, Picolines and its forward integration derivatives, which finds application in agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, dyes, solvents, metal finishes, fine chemicals, semiconductors etc.

Summary
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated scientist with deep expertise in synthetic chemistry, process development, scale-up, and commercialization of high-purity semiconductor chemicals. The role involves developing innovative molecules and processes for semiconductor applications, optimizing reactions from laboratory to commercial scale, ensuring ultra-trace metal impurity control at PPB levels, and supporting successful technology transfer to manufacturing.
The ideal candidate will possess strong hands-on laboratory skills, scale-up experience, a thorough understanding of semiconductor chemical requirements, and the ability to lead technical development programs from concept to commercialization.
Key Responsibilities: - Synthetic Chemistry & Product Development
- Develop and optimize synthetic routes for new and existing semiconductor chemical products.
- Explore and evaluate novel molecules and chemistries to create competitive advantages for customers and business growth.
- Develop products meeting stringent semiconductor industry specifications, including PPB-level metal impurity control.
- Design, execute, and troubleshoot synthetic experiments under cleanroom and controlled-environment conditions.
- Screen and optimize reaction parameters including:
- Stoichiometry
- Mixing efficiency
- Heat transfer
- Pressure control
- Reaction kinetics
- Operate and troubleshoot laboratory and pilot-scale equipment independently.
- Recommend and implement advanced analytical and process equipment aligned with industry best practices.
- Review and approve technical documents including:
- SOPs
- COAs
- Technical Packages
- Sample Preparation Reports
- Development Protocols
- Utilize analytical and characterization techniques for organic molecules and high-purity chemicals.
- Prepare comprehensive development reports and technical presentations for management reviews and technical forums.
- Process Development, Scale-Up & Commercialization
- Translate laboratory processes into pilot and commercial-scale manufacturing processes.
- Develop process documentation including:
- Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
- Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- Mass Balance Calculations
- Equipment Specifications
- Lead pilot plant campaigns and production trials.
- Ensure seamless technology transfer from R&D to manufacturing.
- Drive process optimization initiatives to improve yield, purity, throughput, and process robustness.
- Collaborate with production, quality, engineering, and EHS teams during commercialization activities.
- Equipment & Experimental Setup Design
- Design and develop laboratory and pilot-scale experimental setups.
- Select appropriate materials of construction such as:
- SS316
- Hastelloy
- PTFE
- PFA
- Quartz
- Evaluate equipment compatibility based on process chemistry and operating conditions.
- Troubleshoot process equipment issues related to:
- Pumping efficiency
- Line clogging
- Temperature control
- Dosing systems
- Process instrumentation
- Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure strict adherence to laboratory safety practices and process safety requirements.
- Assess and mitigate risks associated with hazardous processes including:
- Chlorination
- Nitration
- Oxidation
- Phosphonation
- Other exothermic and toxic reactions
- Conduct and support:
- HAZOP Studies
- HIRA Assessments
- Thermal Hazard Screening
- Process Safety Reviews
- Maintain compliance with organizational safety standards, SOPs, ELN documentation, and 5S methodologies.
- Support process intensification initiatives aimed at improving safety and operational efficiency.
- Data Analysis, Documentation & Technical Communication
- Conduct reaction kinetics studies and process modelling.
- Analyze process data to improve reaction performance and scalability.
- Prepare and maintain:
- Technical Reports
- SOPs
- Batch Manufacturing Records
- Scale-Up Reports
- Validation Documentation
- Present technical updates to internal stakeholders, leadership teams, customers, and external partners.
- Support customer interactions by providing scientific and technical expertise.
The Person:
Qualifications
Education
- M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Chemical Sciences, or related discipline
Experience
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in synthetic chemistry, process development, and scale-up.
- Demonstrated experience in transferring laboratory technologies to pilot and commercial manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of plant operations and process engineering principles.
- Prior experience in Semiconductor Chemicals R&D is highly preferred.
- Experience working in cleanroom environments and high-purity chemical production is desirable.
