Job Summary
The Provisional Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of automotive wiring harness protection and routing components including grommets, troughs, channels, clips, and related harness accessories. The role involves CAD modeling, packaging studies, drawing preparation, validation support, and coordination with cross-functional engineering teams.
The engineer will work closely with wiring harness, vehicle integration, tooling, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure components meet functional, dimensional, sealing, durability, and manufacturability requirements in accordance with automotive standards and customer specifications.
Preferred Experience:
Essential:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in automotive plastics and rubber component engineering
- Experience in Tier-1 or Tier-2 automotive supplier environment preferred
- Experience in Design & development of Rubber parts.
- Hands on Experience in 3D Design Packaging in UGNX / CATIA.
- Good knowledge in design basics, vehicle packaging studies, Architecture, and statutory requirements etc.,
- Cross functional experience in Design
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop automotive wiring harness components including:
- Grommets
- Troughs
- Channels
- Clips and protective routing parts
- Create and modify 2D drawings and 3D CAD models using: CATIA & NX
- Perform packaging, clearance, and fitment analysis for harness routing systems.
- Coordinate with wiring harness, body engineering, and vehicle integration teams.
- Ensure proper cable protection, retention, sealing, accessibility, and serviceability.
- Prepare engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
- Support prototype development, testing, and validation activities.
- Participate in design reviews, customer discussions, and engineering change management.
- Assist tooling and manufacturing teams to improve producibility and assembly efficiency.
- Maintain revision control and engineering documentation records.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications and automotive quality standards.
- Support validation activities such as:
- Water sealing tests
- Vibration testing
- Thermal performance evaluation
- Durability testing
- Fitment and clearance validation
Required Skills
- Knowledge of automotive wiring harness components.
- Understanding of rubber/plastic component design.
- Basic knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards.
- Familiarity with automotive development processes.
- Proficiency in CAD tools.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Exposure to:
- APQP
- DFMEA
- PPAP
- Automotive quality standards
- Knowledge of injection molding or rubber molding processes.
- Experience in automotive OEM/Tier-1 projects is an advantage.
