Role Purpose
The Head Direct & Indirect Tax is responsible for end-to-end tax strategy, compliance, litigation management, and advisory across direct and indirect taxes. The role ensures tax efficiency, robust governance, regulatory compliance, and proactive risk management while supporting business growth and strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Taxation
- Lead corporate income tax planning, compliance, and optimization in line with business strategy
- Oversee computation and filing of income tax returns, transfer pricing documentation, and tax audits
- Manage assessments, appeals, and litigation with tax authorities
- Advise business teams on tax implications of mergers, acquisitions, restructuring and investments
- Monitor changes in tax laws and assess impact on the organization
Indirect Taxation (GST)
- Ensure end-to-end GST compliance including returns, ITC reconciliations, audits, and assessments
- Manage GST litigation, notices, and departmental interactions
- Provide guidance on GST structuring, place of supply, valuation, and input tax credit optimization
Tax Governance & Risk Management
- Establish strong tax controls, processes, and documentation
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, statutory requirements, and regulatory standards
- Lead internal and external tax audits and address observations effectively
- Implement best practices in tax governance and transparency
Business Advisory & Stakeholder Management
- Act as a strategic tax advisor to leadership and business teams
- Support new business initiatives, contracts, pricing decisions, and cross-border transactions
- Coordinate with external tax advisors, consultants, and legal counsels
- Liaise with tax authorities, regulators, and industry bodies
Team Leadership
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing tax team
- Drive capability building and succession planning within the tax function
- Foster a culture of compliance, accountability, and continuous improvement

Qualifications & Experience
- Chartered Accountant (CA) preferred
- 1215 years of progressive experience in taxation, with exposure to direct & indirect taxes and working knowledge of international taxation.
- Experience in large corporates, MNCs, Big 4, or regulated environments preferred
