About the Role
The Business Development Head will be responsible for developing and implementing business strategies aligned with corporate goals, managing client relationships, and leading a team to achieve sales targets.
Responsibilities
Business Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement business development strategies aligned with corporate/ready mix business goals.
- Prepare annual/quarterly sales targets, revenue & margin forecasts, market expansion plans.
- Conduct market analysis to identify new segments, areas, sectors (infrastructure, residential, commercial etc.) and competitive threats/opportunities.
Lead Generation & New Business
- Identify, qualify and pursue new business leads (projects, contractors, builders, developers).
- Build a pipeline of potential projects and clients; ensure steady backlog.
- Participate in tenders, RFQs, bid preparation, technical proposals.
Key Account Management & Client Relationships
- Maintain & grow relationships with existing clients, contractors, consultants, architects.
- Act as primary contact for large/strategic accounts.
- Understand customer needs, provide technical inputs, ensure satisfaction and repeat orders.
Pricing, Contracting & Negotiations
- Work with commercial/finance teams to set pricing structures that maintain margins while being competitive.
- Negotiate contracts, terms, delivery & payment terms.
- Ensure contractual compliance and minimize risks.
Cross‐Functional Coordination
- Work closely with operations / plant / dispatch / quality to ensure that production, quality & delivery commitments are met.
- Work with technical team to develop appropriate mix designs, ensure product specifications, respond to technical queries.
- Coordinate with marketing / PR / branding to increase brand visibility, lead generation, customer engagement.
Financial and Performance Management
- Monitor business performance: revenue, profitability, margins, cost drivers (e.g. raw materials, logistics).
- Track KPIs such as lead conversion, order booking, receivables, utilization rates.
- Prepare MIS reports for senior management: performance against plan, gaps, corrective actions.
Market Intelligence & Feedback
- Keep abreast of industry trends: regulatory changes, material cost trends, new technologies/admixtures, sustainability standards.
- Monitor competitor activity, pricing, product innovations.
- Provide feedback internally for product improvements, process improvements.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and build the business development / sales team under you.
- Set team targets, performance metrics; conduct performance reviews.
- Ensure high levels of customer service, professionalism.
Qualifications
- B. Tech (Civil)
- MBA in Marketing
Required Skills
- Strong business acumen and strategic thinking.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven track record in business development and sales.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in the Ready Mix Concrete industry.
- Familiarity with market analysis and competitive intelligence.
