Overview
The Data Migration Lead will oversee and execute the migration of geospatial data from legacy systems such as GE Smallworld and Geometric Network to Esri's Utility Network (UN). This role requires expertise in Esri technologies, Utility Network configuration, and data transformation tools like FME. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in utilities (Gas, Electric, Water, Telecom) and experience managing complex data migration projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end data migration projects from GE Smallworld and Geometric Network to Esri Utility Network.
- Analyze legacy data models and design migration strategies to align with Esri Utility Network schema and best practices.
- Configure and implement Esri Utility Network models, including network rules, topologies, and asset configurations.
- Develop and execute data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) workflows using FME and Python (ArcPy).
- Perform data quality assessments and validations to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness during migration.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, define migration objectives, and ensure alignment with business needs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to data compatibility, schema mapping, and network topology during migration.
- Optimize migration processes for performance and scalability, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.
- Document migration workflows, methodologies, and lessons learned for future reference.
- Provide training and support to teams on Esri Utility Network and post-migration processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in GIS, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 8-12 years of experience in GIS, with at least 4-6 years in data migration projects.
- Strong expertise in Esri technologies, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, and Utility Network.
- Hands-on experience with data migration from GE Smallworld and Geometric Network to Esri platforms.
- Proficiency in FME (Feature Manipulation Engine) for data transformation and automation.
- Advanced Python scripting skills (ArcPy) for geoprocessing and data migration tasks.
- In-depth knowledge of utility network models (Gas, Electric, Water, Telecom) and their operational workflows.
- Experience with spatial databases such as PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Oracle, or SQL Server.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to manage cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Esri Utility Network configuration, including network rules, subnetwork management, and tracing.
- Familiarity with Agile project management methodologies and tools like Jira or Azure DevOps.
- Knowledge of GE Smallworld data structures and migration challenges.
- Experience with large-scale enterprise GIS implementations and integrations.
- Certification in Esri technologies or FME is a plus.
