About The Role
Leidos is seeking an experienced GE Smallworld GIS Developer to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to manage and maintain our GE Smallworld Geographic Information Systems (GIS) environment, ensuring its stability, performance, and security. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and supporting GIS applications that align with organizational and client objectives. This position involves working closely with cross-functional teams including application developers, project managers, technical analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality geospatial solutions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in GIS technologies, particularly GE Smallworld, and have experience in developing, deploying, and maintaining complex GIS systems within a multi-server environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, complemented by at least two years of experience working with GE Smallworld Development Suite, including G/Technology and Object Modeling. Candidates with more years of relevant experience may also be considered in lieu of a degree. Proficiency in programming languages such as Magik, Java, C#, and Python is essential for application development and automation tasks. A solid understanding of geospatial data formats, analysis techniques, and data management principles is required. Experience with geospatial database management systems like Oracle Spatial or SQL Server, along with familiarity with web mapping frameworks such as Leaflet or OpenLayers, will be advantageous. Strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to work independently or collaboratively within agile or waterfall development methodologies are critical for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement GIS applications utilizing GE Smallworld technology, ensuring optimal performance, usability, and security.
- Collaborate with business analysts, project managers, and end-users to gather requirements and translate them into detailed technical specifications.
- Administer and maintain GE Smallworld GIS software, including performing upgrades, patches, and configuration adjustments to ensure system availability and security.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues promptly, and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime and operational disruptions.
- Support application deployment, upgrades, and customizations by working closely with other GIS developers and analysts.
- Create, maintain, and optimize geospatial databases, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and efficient data management practices.
- Develop, enhance, and troubleshoot GIS applications using Smallworld Development Suite, including custom modules and functionalities tailored to organizational needs.
- Build and maintain web-based GIS applications and services to provide users with seamless access to geospatial data and tools.
- Conduct rigorous testing, validation, and quality assurance procedures to ensure applications meet organizational standards and user expectations.
- Provide ongoing technical support, addressing issues related to GIS applications and infrastructure, and ensuring minimal operational impact.
- Maintain comprehensive system documentation, including configuration settings, operational procedures, and troubleshooting guides to facilitate knowledge sharing and future maintenance.
