Role-GFO

We're hiring a leader for our Global Finance Operations (GFO) team in India. You will report into the HQ Controller and own end-to-end service delivery from the GFO to the rest of the business. This includes owning weekly payment runs, monthly close, annual financial statements, and supporting the application of accounting policies.

You will lead the GL, AP, Tax, Vendor Master Data, and Audit Support teams in India. Each of these teams has a team lead today who will report into you. You will operate in a matrix with

headquarters functional counterparts — solid line to you for people management, priorities, capacity, performance, and local execution.

What you'll do:

Your priority is to bring the GFO to operational maturity: install the operating cadence (close calendar, daily stand-ups, documented decisions, KPIs, review discipline), close the quality gap with HQ on month-end output, develop the existing team leads, and partner with HQ on absorbing more activities into the GFO.

In parallel, you'll lead and grow the GFO team across all five functions — hiring, coaching, performance management, and career development. You'll own the day-to-day delivery of finance services, including timely and accurate close, statutory reporting support, AP processing, tax compliance support, vendor master data management, and audit support. You'll partner closely with HQ Finance to understand where the gaps are and to systematically close them. You'll identify and implement process and system improvements (including in SAP) to remove manual work and improve quality. You'll build a culture of ownership, pace, and continuous improvement.

Longer term, you will partner with HQ on maturing the GFO's scope and ownership of accounting operations and take on further responsibilities as appropriate.

What we're looking for:

  • Fluent English.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in finance/accounting, with at least 4 years managing finance operations or shared services teams of meaningful scale.
  • 4+ years hands-on with SAP.
  • CPA, CA, or equivalent required.
  • Big 4 training preferred.
  • Bachelor's in accounting, Finance, or related field required.

Beyond the credentials, the things that matter most:

  • High-growth or startup track record. You've led finance in environments where systems, processes, and org structures were changing under you — and you didn't wait for someone else to define the playbook.
  • You've built a team from scratch (or rebuilt a struggling one). You can talk concretely about people you hired, coached, promoted, retained. Reference calls with former direct reports will confirm this.
  • Player-coach mindset. You go deep when needed — into a reconciliation, a journal, a contract clause — and zoom back out to lead. You will not sign off on work you don't actually understand.
  • Owns the output. When errors are found downstream, you treat it as your problem. You build the review discipline to make sure it doesn't happen twice.
  • Earns respect by being close to the work and the people. You sit with your team. You know what each person is working on this week. You don't need an assistant or a private office to do your job.
  • Proactive operator. You don't wait to be told what good practice looks like. You've already implemented the operating cadence in past roles — and your team would point to you as the source of it.
  • Builder energy. You're excited that the GFO isn't yet where it needs to be. You see that as the opportunity, not the problem.

Nice to have:

  • E-commerce, marketplace, or multi-entity international experience.
  • Captive/GCC leadership experience at a company that scaled rapidly.
  • Experience leading a finance function through an ERP migration or systems consolidation.
  • Exposure to multi-jurisdiction reporting (EU/US/India).
