General Manager Production - Material Handling Automation

A high precision industrial automation MNC group based in Pune specializing in turnkey automation material handling solutions is looking for General Manager for Production department.

Reporting to:Director Operations

Deputies:Manager- Mechanical & Manager -Electrical Controls 

Location:Pune

The duties of the General Manager - Production typically shall include:

Responsibilities:

·        Plan, monitor, and ensure achievement of production and dispatch targets in line with project schedules

·        Drive execution in a project-based manufacturing environment, ensuring timely delivery despite upstream delays

·        Establish and maintain strong coordination with Design, Procurement, Stores, and Quality to ensure seamless workflow

·        Develop and implement short-term and long-term production plans, including recovery plans for schedule deviations

·        Ensure optimum utilization of manpower, machines, and working hours, including shift planning where required

·        Maintain strict control of shop floor material, ensuring availability aligned to WIP and avoiding excess/unaccounted inventory

·        Drive daily production reviews and execution discipline to avoid last-minute bottlenecks

·        Monitor and control production costs while maintaining required quality standards

·        Ensure adherence to quality systems and standards (ISO) and minimize rework

·        Lead continuous improvement initiatives in productivity, cost, and process efficiency

·        Ensure high standards of safety, housekeeping, and shop floor discipline

·        Build and lead a high-performance production team, driving ownership and accountability

·        Ensure plant and machinery are maintained in good condition through preventive and corrective actions

·        Provide regular updates to management on production performance, risks, and mitigation actions

KPI (Key Performance Indicators):

·        On-time project dispatch adherence

·        Production schedule adherence

·        Productivity (output vs manpower/machine hours)

·        WIP and shop floor inventory control

·        Rework / rejection levels

·        Cost efficiency vs budget

·        Safety compliance

Requirements:

·        Hands-on experience in industrial automation / project-based manufacturing environment

·        Strong exposure to mechanical, electrical, and controls systems (PLC, CNC)

·        Proven ability to manage multiple parallel projects with tight timelines

·        Experience in handling 30+ team size, including engineers and operators

·        Strong execution mindset with ability to work under pressure and handle dynamic situations

·        Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional alignment and resolve bottlenecks

·        Strong focus on shop floor discipline, material control, and productivity improvement

·        Proficiency in ERP systems and MS Office

·        Strong communication, decision-making, and leadership skills

·        Qualification: BE (Mechanical / Production)

• Experience: 15 - 20 years

Communication:

Excellent command in English, both written and spoken technical communication.
