Key Responsibilities
1. P&L and Business Performance Ownership
- Full ownership of operational P&L (revenue, gross margin, EBITDA).
- Drive revenue growth through higher utilization, better pricing, new service lines, and geographic expansion.
- Achieve and exceed annual EBITDA targets
2. Delivery Excellence & Client Satisfaction
- Ensure 100% on-time delivery with zero critical defects across all projects.
- Maintain NPS > 75 from international clients.
- Personally intervene in escalations from Top 20 clients.
- Institutionalize robust project governance, risk management, and quality frameworks.
- Oversee end-to-end project delivery across all service verticals (Structural Design, Steel Detailing, BIM, Architectural, MEP) ensuring on-time, on-quality, on-budget delivery to international clients.
- Design and implement a scalable operations framework — standardized project workflows, resource allocation models, project lifecycle management (from proposal → kick-off → production → QC → delivery → closeout), and SLA frameworks for each service line.
- Establish and manage a world-class Project Management Office (PMO) that provides real-time visibility into project health, resource utilization, schedule adherence, and profitability across 100+ concurrent projects.
- Manage time-zone aligned delivery operations — potentially running 2–3 shifts or staggered work schedules to ensure real-time overlap and responsiveness to US, European, Australian, and Gulf clients.
3. Capacity Planning & Resource Optimization
- Scale delivery capacity , Achieve billed utilization > 88% consistently.
- Build and execute annual manpower planning, recruitment pipeline, and training academy roadmap.
- Optimize pyramid ratio and salary cost as % of revenue.
4. Process Standardization & Scalability
- Lead complete process re-engineering and automation (using Tekla, Revit macros, Python scripting, Power BI dashboards, custom ERP modules).
- Implement and continuously improve ISO 9001, ISO 27001, and CMMI Level 5 equivalent processes.
- Drive digital transformation initiatives (BIM workflow automation, cloud-based collaboration platforms, AI-based checking tools).
5. People Leadership & Organization Building
- Build a strong second-line leadership team (VPs/Tech. Directors reporting to you).
- Create a high-performance culture with clear KPIs, career paths, and succession planning.
- Maintain attrition below industry average (<12% for senior resources).
6. Strategic Initiatives
- Lead entry into new markets/services (e.g., Precast Detailing, Facade Engineering, Modular Construction, Scan-to-BIM).
- Drive strategic partnerships with global software vendors (Trimble, Autodesk, Bluebeam, etc.).
- Personally engage with C-level and VP-level stakeholders at client organizations (Engineering Directors, BIM Managers, Project Directors, Principals at Architecture/Engineering firms).
- Lead quarterly business reviews (QBRs) with strategic clients, presenting performance dashboards, value-adds, innovations, and roadmaps for expanded collaboration.
- Support Business Development / Sales teams in solution design, proposal development, technical presentations, pricing, and contract negotiations for large/complex pursuits.
Experience Requirements:
- Total Experience-15–25 years in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) industry
- Relevant Experience -Minimum 10+ years specifically in Structural Design / Steel Detailing / BIM Services / Engineering Services organizations (NOT pure construction/contracting)
- Leadership Experience- Minimum 5–7 years in a senior leadership role (VP Operations, Director, Country Head, Practice Head, COO, or equivalent) managing 200+ people and ₹60 Cr+ revenue
- International Client Experience Mandatory — Must have extensive experience working with international clients (USA/UK/Europe/Australia), understanding their codes, standards, work culture, communication expectations, and contract structures P&L
- Experience Must have owned P&L responsibility — not just managed projects but been accountable for revenue targets, margins, and business growth Scaling Experience
- Strongly preferred — Experience in scaling an engineering services business from a smaller size to 2–3x growth (e.g., ₹20 Cr to ₹50 Cr, or ₹50 Cr to ₹100 Cr)
Domain Expertise (non-negotiable)
- Deep technical understanding of AISC, Eurocode, BS, AS/NZS codes.
- Hands-on experience with STADPRO, ETAB, Tekla Structures, Revit, SDS/2, Boklok, StruMIS, Navisworks, Solibri.
- Thorough knowledge of LOD 100–500 workflows, steel connection design, and Rebar detailing standards.
Leadership Traits
- Gravitas to command respect from 500+ engineers and 50+ member senior leadership team.
- Extremely strong in execution, numbers, and process orientation.
- Ability to operate at both strategic and granular levels (can review a Tekla model himself/herself if required).
- High energy, stamina, and willingness to be based full-time in Chennai.
Education
- B.E./B.Tech Civil/Structural Engineering mandatory.
- M.Tech Structural Engineering preferred.
- MBA from Tier-1 institute (IIM/ISB) highly desirable but not mandatory if delivery track record is exceptional.
- Good to Have Chartered Engineer (CEng) or PE (Professional Engineer) registration
