About HAKKI GroupHAKKI Group is a Japan-based start up company, operating across 4 countries(India, Kenya, South Africa, Thailand), with a focus on vehicle finance, fleet management, and related financial and leasing services especially for the gig workers such as taxi drivers.
Role OverviewWe are seeking a strategic and operationally minded General Manager to drive both top-line commercial growth and bottom-line operational rigor. This role requires an end-to-end business leader who can seamlessly bridge ground-level execution with executive decision-making, ensuring scaled expansion without compromising governance or financial discipline.
This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of the global gig economy. As we scale our footprint from four countries to more than ten and prepare for a future IPO in Japan, you will play a central role in driving our international growth. Working closely with our global team and leadership, you will hold comprehensive end-to-end responsibility and the autonomy to build, operating with the true mindset of a business owner.
At the same time, this is not a simple or comfortable role. It carries significant responsibility and will bring complex operational and strategic challenges. We are specifically looking for a high-caliber leader who views these challenges as the ultimate growth opportunity, genuinely enjoys operating in a dynamic and high-stakes environment, and possesses the drive to scale this business alongside us!
Key Responsibilities1. Fleet Operations & Team Management
Lead the fleet operations function with full end-to-end accountability, translating high-level strategy into ground execution across a rapidly scaling fleet, targeted to grow from 800+ to 2,000+ vehicles, supported by diverse sourcing channels, multiple vendors, and a driver network. Directly manage the team while setting precise KPIs for vehicle utilization, uptime, driver quality, and cost efficiency. Establish a disciplined operational cadence focused on deep-dive root-cause analysis rather than surface-level reporting. Oversee the entire vehicle lifecycle, including sourcing strategy, vendor management, cost control, and asset disposal, using operational data to protect and improve margins.
2. Business Development & Partnerships
Negotiate while maintaining a healthy relationship with platform partner, financier and strategic partner. Lead the complete deal lifecycle by identifying new commercial opportunities while aligning closely with legal to model terms and close transactions.Conduct commercial due diligence on large vehicle acquisitions, integrating unit economics, valuation sanity checks, and downside scenario modeling. This is a dedicated revenue-generation role built for a dealmaker who actively originates and closes new business rather than simply managing existing contracts.
3. Financial Planning & Control
Budget vs actual management for the India business on a monthly basis, and treat it as a live management tool rather than a monthly reporting obligation. Partner with HQ to build the business plan bottom-up from real operational drivers, fleet size, utilization, driver economics, vendor cost trends. Work with HQ for monthly reviews against plan, quarterly deep-dives with variance analysis and corrective action plans, and full ownership of hitting the numbers. Maintain granular visibility into unit-level cost structures, report and plan numbers stay grounded in operational reality rather than top-down assumptions.
4. Executive Reporting & Stakeholder Alignment
Establish and execute a comprehensive reporting in close partnership with the local Managing Director, keeping HQ in Japan continuously aligned. Maintain structured, high-frequency touchpoints covering operational KPIs, financial performance against plan, and real-time commercial developments, going far beyond traditional quarterly summaries. Own the KPI dashboards and reporting infrastructure to provide HQ with seamless visibility without requiring manual follow-ups. Serving as the functional connective tissue between ground-level execution and executive decision-making, this role requires sharp operational judgment to distinguish between issues needing immediate escalation and those suited for regular updates, ensuring both local and global leaders remain fully aligned.
