About Native

Native is Urban Company's in-house consumer products brand. Urban Company, founded in 2014, is Asia's largest technology marketplace for home services, and Native builds smart home products around problems we have seen first-hand while serving millions of homes.

Native was born out of our service business. After servicing more than a million water purifiers and completing over 100,000 carpentry jobs, we understood where existing products fail and how Indian homes are actually built. In 2023 we turned those insights into products: Native smart door locks, followed by a range of smart RO water purifiers.

Every Native product is backed by the Urban Company platform. Customers buy through the Urban Company app, our trained professionals install the product, and our after-sales network services it. That closed loop gives our engineers direct insight into how products perform in real homes.

Our innovations include:

• Service-free water purification - India's first purifiers that need no servicing for 2 years, and the Native M3 Pro, with long-life filtration of up to 3 years and a 3-year unconditional warranty.

• Connected product health - Customers track water TDS, filter health and consumption through the Urban Company app.

• Locks designed for Indian homes - Designed to fit the vast majority of Indian doors, with reversible handles, doorbell-connected activation with visitor photos (Lock Pro), and face unlock (Lock Ultra).

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Quality Control Engineer to anchor quality across our product lifecycle — from supplier inputs to field performance. You will own process control, spec documentation, supplier audits, NPI quality gates, and field issue resolution as a central function bridging design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams.

You will also analyse field failures — facilitating RCA with lab teams to get to the root cause, enhancing IQC processes based on the learnings, and tracking the improvement in field failure rates that comes from more stringent IQC.

Key Responsibilities

Process Control

  • Define, monitor, and maintain Statistical Process Control (SPC) parameters for critical manufacturing operations
  • Own and update Control Plans for all active product lines, including CTQ (Critical to Quality) characteristics
  • Conduct periodic process audits on the shop floor and flag deviations with structured CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action)
  • Collaborate with production teams to embed quality checkpoints into assembly and testing stages

Supplier Quality Control

  • Conduct Incoming Quality Control (IQC) for raw materials and bought-out components against approved specs
  • Perform supplier audits and maintain supplier scorecards for on-time quality compliance
  • Drive PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) or equivalent first-article approvals for new or changed components
  • Raise and track Supplier Corrective Action Reports (SCARs) and verify effectiveness of closures

Specification & Ideal Spec Documentation

  • Create and maintain Ideal Spec Sheets, tolerance documents, and inspection criteria for components and finished goods
  • Standardize Acceptance Quality Limits (AQL) sampling plans aligned with IS/BIS or applicable standards
  • Maintain a centralized spec repository and ensure version control across engineering change cycles
  • Author and update SOPs, Work Instructions, and quality checklists for inspection stations

Field Issue Resolution

  • Act as the QC anchor for field complaints and warranty returns — triage, document, and drive root cause analysis
  • Use structured tools such as 8D, Fishbone (Ishikawa), and 5-Why for failure investigation and reporting
  • Coordinate with service, design, and production teams to close issues with verified corrective actions
  • Track field failure rate trends and proactively flag systemic issues to product and engineering teams

New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Participate in Design for Quality (DFQ) reviews during NPI stages — provide quality risk assessments
  • Define and execute First Article Inspection (FAI) and pilot batch qualification protocols
  • Establish quality benchmarks, test plans, and inspection checklists before production scale-up
  • Ensure all NPI components and assemblies have approved specs and supplier qualifications before launch

Qualifications & Skills Area Requirement

  • Education - B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering
  • Experience - 3 years in a QC/QA role in a manufacturing environment
  • Standards Knowledge - IS/BIS, ISO 9001, AQL sampling (IS 2500)
  • Tools - SPC, CAPA, 8D, FMEA, PPAP/FAI
  • Software - MS Excel (data analysis), QMS tools, basic ERP/PLM familiarity
  • Soft Skills - Cross-functional communication, structured problem-solving, documentation discipline

What Sets a Strong Candidate Apart for Us

  • Experience in electromechanical product quality (pumps, appliances, or similar assemblies)
  • Exposure to multilevel BOM-based quality control — component level through finished goods
  • Ability to write clear, copy-paste-ready spec and test documents independently
  • Demonstrated ownership of at least one full NPI cycle from pilot to production

KPIs for This Role

  • Incoming rejection rate (%) by supplier
  • Field complaint closure time (days)
  • NPI first-pass qualification success rate
  • Supplier SCAR closure rate within target timelines
  • Control plan and spec documentation coverage (%)
