Maintenance Worker

Qualifications

  • In accordance with Mississippi Code S37-9-17, all personnel employed by the public school system shall be required to pass a criminal background check and a current child abuse registry check.
  • A satisfactory employment record.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year formal training in one or more of the following areas: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, service work, and welding.
  • Demonstrated work experience in performing tasks related those areas identified in item 4.
  • Must possess a valid Mississippi Driver's License D Endorsement
  • Ability to follow routine oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to follow all safety precautions related to operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to get along with other workers, supervisors, and students.
  • Must be able to safely lift and handle up to 45 pounds.
  • Must be able to twist, bend, sit, squat, kneel, pull, and stand.
  • Must be able to tolerate outdoor work and activities.
  • Must be able to climb, and work, safely from ladders.
  • Must be able to use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
  • Must be able to tolerate extended periods of overhead work.

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Director

Job Goal

Perform repairs, and maintenance to the buildings, grounds, and equipment of the Harrison County School District.

Essential Functions

Such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, including but not limited to:

  • Operates motorized and light equipment including pickup truck and various hand and power tools.
  • Perform minor building and equipment repairs.
  • Perform routine maintenance to HVAC equipment.
  • Perform plumbing fixture replacements and repairs.
  • Perform miscellaneous carpentry repairs.
  • Pickup and delivery of but not limited to maintenance equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Perform repairs and preventative maintenance service on all school district buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Perform repairs according to assigned maintenance requests in a timely and satisfactory manner.
  • Responds to radio calls for questions and assistance.
  • Performs interior and exterior painting tasks as directed.
  • Performs fence building or repairs as directed.
  • Ability to install window glass and/or coverings as directed.
  • Ability to repair and/or install carpet and tile.
  • Ability to repair and/or install light fixtures and equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain plumbing, heating, and electrical systems as directed.
  • Maintain security and lock systems, throughout the School District.
  • Maintain storage and work areas in a neat, safe, and secure condition.
  • Report hazardous or unsafe conditions to supervisor immediately.
  • Report extensive repair and maintenance needs to supervisor.
  • Inspect buildings and grounds for preventative and safety measures.
  • Report to work for emergency on-call assignments as required.
  • Assist in moving furniture, equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Assist other maintenance personnel as assigned.
  • Follow all Safety Policy and Procedures of the Harrison County School District.
  • Any other duties within the scope of this job description as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.

Additional Duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor, Superintendent and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

260 days a year with the salary and work year to be established by the School Board.

EVALUATION

Performance of the Maintenance Worker will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions in the School Board Policies and Procedures.

FLSA Status: Not Exempt
