About the role
This role is responsible for overseeing and managing the general ledger accounting functions of
an organisation. This role is crucial in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of
financial records and reports. The GL Controller plays a pivotal part in the financial close
process, the preparation of financial statements
Key Responsibilities
● General Ledger Management:
○ Maintain and oversee the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger.
○ Ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with
accounting standards.
○ Review and reconcile general ledger accounts on a regular basis.
○ Prepare and post journal entries as needed.
○ Should be able to scale with the business without diluting control on the books of
accounts.
● Month-End and Year-End Close:
○ Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring deadlines are met.
○ Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income
statements, and cash flow statements.
○ Ensure all accounts are reconciled and discrepancies are resolved before closing
the books.
○ Coordinate with other departments to gather necessary information for closing.
● Financial Reporting and Analysis:
○ Prepare and analyse TB before and after month end
○ Assist/Prepare in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
○ Provide insights and recommendations based on financial data to support
decision-making
● Compliance and Auditing:
○ Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures
○ Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and
explanations
○ Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting regulations and standards (e.g.,
GAAP, IFRS)
● Process Improvement:
○ Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes and systems.
○ Work closely with the IT department to optimise financial systems and
automation.
○ Develop and document accounting policies and procedures.
○ Automation of standard processes and use of AI.
● Team Collaboration:
○ Collaborate with other members of the finance team to ensure seamless
operations.
○ Provide support and training to junior accounting staff as needed.
What are we looking for
● Education: CA qualified or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
● Experience: Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in general ledger accounting, financial
reporting, or related roles.
● Skills:
○ Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
○ Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks) and Excel.
○ Good understanding of financial statements
○ Experience of working actively as audit support or leading the audit
○ Attention to detail and accuracy.
○ Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
○ Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
