We operate a high-acuity on-site surgical and intensive care facility catering to complex cranial and spinal procedures with an emphasis on perioperative patient safety and outcomes.

Role: Consultant Neuro Anaesthetist (General Anaesthesia)

We are seeking an experienced, on-site General Anaesthesia Consultant with strong neuroanaesthesia expertise to join the anaesthesia and neurocritical care team. The successful candidate will lead perioperative anaesthetic management for complex neurosurgical cases, collaborate closely with neurosurgeons and ICU teams, and contribute to clinical governance and training.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, evidence-based general anaesthesia for elective and emergency neurosurgical cases (cranial, spinal, awake craniotomies) with responsibility for perioperative decision-making.
  • Plan and deliver neuroanaesthesia techniques including TIVA, controlled hypotension strategies, and management during intraoperative neuromonitoring (EEG/evoked potentials).
  • Manage airway and haemodynamic optimisation for high-risk neurosurgical patients; perform invasive monitoring and titrate vasoactive agents.
  • Coordinate perioperative care with neurocritical care and orthopaedic teamslead handovers, ICU transfers, and post-op ventilator management.
  • Participate in morbidity & mortality review, protocol development (anaesthesia checklists, airway/bleed management), and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Supervise and mentor junior anaesthetists, trainees, and OT staff; contribute to continuing medical education and on-site skill training.

Skills & Qualifications

Must-Have

  • MBBS with MD/DNB in Anaesthesiology (or equivalent) and valid Indian medical registration.
  • Proven clinical experience in neuroanaesthesia with hands-on exposure to major neurosurgical procedures.
  • Competence in Total Intravenous Anaesthesia (TIVA) for neurosurgery and management during intraoperative neuromonitoring.
  • Skilled in advanced airway management, invasive haemodynamic monitoring, and perioperative ventilator management.
  • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Ability to work on-site in a fast-paced tertiary OT and ICU environment and handle emergency call rota.

Preferred

  • Fellowship or formal training in Neuroanaesthesia / Neurocritical Care.
  • Experience with awake craniotomy anaesthesia and perioperative multimodal monitoring (ICP, EEG, evoked potentials).
  • Prior work in a high-volume neurosurgical centre and involvement in teaching or research.
