The Role

We are looking for an AI Engineer to own the backend of our product. You will build and

maintain the core infrastructure that powers Associo's AI capabilities — from document

processing pipelines to multi-agent workflows. You will work directly with the founders and

iterate quickly on features that matter to our users.

This is a hands-on engineering role. You will be expected to move fast, write production code,

and take ownership of systems end to end.

What You'll Work On

• Design and build backend services and APIs (Python/FastAPI)
• Build and maintain AI agent workflows — including examples like deep research agents, document agents, and spreadsheet generation agents — and extend these patterns to new use cases as the product evolves
• Integrate and optimize LLM calls, including prompt engineering, context management, retrieval pipelines, and output quality
• Build agents that can programmatically generate Excel files — structured tables, financial models, and data outputs — from natural language instructions
• Improve document parsing and processing pipelines across file types (PDFs, Excel, Word, etc.)
• Build reliable, observable systems — logging, error handling, and cost-awareness matter
• Work with cloud infrastructure on AWS, keeping costs lean
  
  

What We're Looking For

• Proven, hands-on experience building AI agents — you have shipped agentic workflows in production, not just experimented with them
• Deep familiarity with agentic frameworks and patterns: LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, or custom implementations — you know when to use a framework and when to go custom
• Strong understanding of how to design reliable multi-step agents: tool use, state management, error recovery, and output validation
• 3+ years of backend software development experience with strong Python skills — FastAPI or similar frameworks
• Familiarity with LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, or similar) and best practices around reliability, latency, and cost
• Experience programmatically generating structured file outputs — Excel, Word, or similar — is a strong plus
• Comfortable working remotely in a fast-moving, early-stage environment where requirements evolve
• Product sense — you care about the end output, not just the code

• Experience building agentic RAG pipelines
• Exposure to professional services workflows (finance, legal, consulting)
• Frontend familiarity (React) enough to collaborate across the stack
