About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and commercially driven Gemstone Buyer to support our purchasing team in sourcing, evaluating, and managing a wide range of precious and semi-precious gemstones.
This role requires strong technical knowledge of gemstones along with well-established supplier connections in Mumbai and Jaipur markets. The ideal candidate should be confident in handling assortments, pricing negotiations, and ensuring consistent quality aligned with brand standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and procure precious & semi-precious gemstones (ruby, emerald, sapphire, and other colored stones) based on design, quality, and budget requirements
- Evaluate gemstones based on colour, clarity, cut, origin, treatment (heated/untreated), lustre, transparency, and calibration
- Assess and verify certifications, disclosures, and treatments (heated, unheated, dyed, filled, etc.)
- Maintain and leverage strong supplier networks in Mumbai & Jaipur for competitive sourcing and consistent supply
- Compare pricing across multiple vendors and negotiate effectively to achieve optimal cost and quality balance
- Coordinate with suppliers for availability, memo goods, custom cutting, and delivery timelines
- Ensure accurate assortment planning as per design and merchandising requirements
- Maintain detailed records of purchases, vendor data, and inventory movements
- Track stock levels and manage incoming/outgoing gemstones efficiently
- Conduct quality checks to ensure stones meet internal standards and specifications
- Monitor market trends, pricing fluctuations, and gemstone demand cycles
- Prepare reports on purchases, stock position, supplier performance, and pricing benchmarks
Requirements
- 3–6 years of experience in gemstone sourcing or jewellery buying
- Strong knowledge of gemstone grading, treatments, and origin identification basics
- Hands-on experience with colored stones assortment planning and bulk buying
- Established supplier relationships in Mumbai & Jaipur (mandatory)
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
- High attention to detail and quality orientation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and inventory/ERP systems
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, target-driven environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification or background in Gemology (e.g., GIA or equivalent)
- Experience with both calibrated and non-calibrated gemstones
- Understanding of international gemstone markets and sourcing hubs
- Exposure to custom cutting and gemstone manufacturing processes
