Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role located in Mumbai for a Furniture Designer. They will be responsible for designing pieces, creating detailed CAD drawings, working closely with the carpentry team, and collaborating on interior and product design projects. Day-to-day tasks also include sketching concepts, creating detailed design plans, and ensuring the designs meet both aesthetic and functional requirements.

Create detailed 2D technical drawings (AutoCAD) for furniture pieces

Prepare:

  • Dimensions (plans, elevations, sections)
  • Basic joinery details
  • Hardware placements
  • Construction details for carpentry
  • Basic Bill of Materials (BOM) for production

Translate:

  • Reference images
  • Concept sketches
  • Existing catalogue designs into buildable, working drawings

Work closely with:

  • Founder / design team
  • Carpentry team

Ensure drawings are:

  • Practical
  • Clear for execution
  • Aligned with production realities
  • Maintain a library of standard designs and sizes

Do quality checks (QC) and finalisations of pieces

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Furniture Design and an understanding of Carpentry techniques
  • In-depth knowledge of various types of furniture and their construction processes
  • 2–3 years experience in furniture drawings (woodwork)
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD (2D)
  • Understanding of solid wood furniture construction
  • Experience working with custom furniture / workshops
  • Knowledge of joinery, wood behaviour and furniture proportions
  • SketchUp knowledge (bonus)
  • AI Software knowledge / willingness to learn
  • Creativity and problem-solving skills in designing functional and aesthetically pleasing furniture pieces
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams
  • Prior experience or knowledge in the colonial, mid-century and Art Deco design styles is a plus

NOTE: THIS ROLE IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CANDIDATES WITH ONLY MODULAR FURNITURE, PLY WOOD FURNITURE AND FLAT-PACK FURNITURE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE. CANDIDATE MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING OF HARD WOOD, SOLID WOOD FURNITURE CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN.
