The Team:
A number of exciting opportunities have arisen for skilled and enthusiastic Engineers to join JLR's Vehicle Platform (VP) team at TBSI, working on high-integrity propulsion control software.
Propulsion Controls are a fast paced and dynamic area of the automotive industry. You will be a critical part of the team, directly supporting the development of our Autonomous, Connected, Electric and Shared future to help develop our future Propulsion Control Systems and Software, against safety-critical standards such as ISO 26262.
The Role:
Jaguar Land Rover is looking for experienced Functional Safety engineers who will be responsible for the development and delivery of the Functional Safety architecture and design, for high-integrity software and control systems onboard JLR vehicles.
Responsibilities:
- Authoring Functional Safety assurance case documentation, to support the development of JLR products and their control software, in conjunction with internal teams, suppliers, and other outsource partners.
- Perform Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments (HARAs) and fault tree analysis
- Identification, review and specification of safety controls needed to protect JLR and customers
- Support the creation of an overall vehicle safety case.
- Ensure teams and suppliers are correctly following Functional Safety processes, ensuring compliance with standards such as ISO 26262, including participation in technical reviews and audits.
- Ensure continuous improvement through effective lessons learned, knowledge capture, and process development.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- Proven experience and track record of delivery in Functional Safety
- Strong understanding of ISO 26262 (especially parts 4 and 6) or similar standards, and an ability to develop work products in a demonstrably compliant manner up to ASIL-D.
- Practical experience performing HARA and safety case development.
- Understanding of systems engineering, including requirements development, traceability and V&V.
- A demonstrable knowledge of embedded High-Integrity systems, including safe software and hardware design principles.
- Qualified to degree level in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to confer complex technical and procedural topics in a clear and concise form, confidently presenting to stakeholders.
Desirable:
- Automotive experience preferred, but strong candidates from similar industries will also be considered (e.g. defence, aerospace, medical, IoT, rail)
- Knowledge of automotive architectures, communication protocols, and technologies
- Project management skills
- Experience working with suppliers
- Systems engineering qualifications – e.g. IREB, INCOSE, or similar.
- Knowledge of software development in a structured QMS environment, following a standard such as ASPICE, CMMI or similar.
- Knowledge of Cyber Security, including standards such as ISO 21434.
