We're hiring software engineers with proven professional experience, solid engineering fundamentals, and real exposure to production environments — engineers who already build, debug, and ship using AI-assisted development as a core part of their workflow, not an experiment.

About the Role

This isn't a role for building technology in isolation. Our engineers work on systems that directly shape how the business operates, scales, and makes decisions. Most projects start with a real business problem, not a predefined technical spec — you'll work with engineering and business teams to understand a workflow, spot bottlenecks, design a solution, implement it, validate it, and keep it reliable in production.

You'll contribute across:

• AI-assisted product development and internal platform engineering
• Catalogue growth systems and workflow automation
• API integrations and operational tooling
• Data quality, structured data systems, and internal dashboards/reporting
• Debugging production issues and business process optimisation
• Scalable, AI-enabled operational infrastructure

Projects typically span databases, backend services, APIs, frontend applications, and automation tooling — so we're looking for engineers who understand not just how to build a solution, but why it should be built, what it's solving, and whether it's the right call for the business.

Who We're Looking For

Strong candidates typically bring:

• Experience: 1+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally at a recognised technology, product, SaaS, fintech, or e-commerce company, contributing to real production systems and existing codebases.
• Academic background: A strong foundation in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, IT, or a related discipline — preferably from a Tier 1 or strong Tier 2 institution.
• Engineering fundamentals: Solid backend, full-stack, or general application development skills, plus a track record of shipping useful software, automation, internal tools, or AI-powered products.
• Judgement and communication: Strong analytical thinking, high ownership and attention to detail, excellent written/verbal English, comfort in fast-moving environments, and the confidence to question assumptions rather than just execute instructions.

This role is not for candidates whose AI experience is limited to experimenting with ChatGPT. You should already be using tools like Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar in real engineering work, and be able to:

• Structure prompts and context that reliably produce high-quality output
• Read, validate, and improve AI-generated code — catching bad assumptions, edge cases, and weak implementations
• Debug AI-generated code when it doesn't behave as expected
• Work within existing codebases, not just isolated personal projects
• Break down complex problems into structured implementation plans
• Use AI to move faster without outsourcing technical judgement

You should also be comfortable with standard collaborative workflows — Git/GitHub, branching, pull requests, code review, and working across shared repositories.

Experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, React, Next.js, Node.js, SQL, PostgreSQL, and REST APIs is a plus, but we don't expect mastery of every technology in our stack. What matters more is being AI-native: using AI coding assistants as a core part of how you design, build, debug, and ship — and being able to learn unfamiliar systems and technologies quickly.

For candidates with professional experience, we'll weigh most heavily what you personally built, owned, and delivered — and the decisions and trade-offs behind that work.

Business Understanding & Judgement

Babaclick is an international commerce business, and our engineering function exists to solve real commercial and operational problems. Interviews will assess business judgement alongside technical skill.

We don't expect you to understand every part of our business going in — but we do expect you to have researched it, thought critically about how it operates, and arrived with informed questions and considered views. Technical ability is essential; commercial awareness and sound judgement matter just as much.

Recruitment Process

We assess: engineering fundamentals, professional experience, AI-assisted development capability, problem-solving, ability to navigate existing codebases, communication, business judgement, and ownership.

Come prepared to discuss past systems you've worked on in depth — your individual contribution, technical decisions, trade-offs, challenges, and impact.

Final stage: a five-day paid work trial on real engineering tasks, with structured onboarding and support, assessing execution, judgement, and how you operate in a live working environment.
