Job Description

Company Description

ANX Labs (formerly Antariksha Labs) is reshaping education and innovation through practical, hands-on learning. We build advanced hardware modules and a developer platform for learners, educators and professionals. Our work covers satellite-inspired and modular hardware, aerial platforms and scalable research projects. We also work closely with academic institutions, industry partners and creators to build data-driven solutions across industries.

Through ANX Labs, you will work on an energy-technology venture in our ecosystem. It builds IoT metering hardware, a consumer energy app and a multi-tenant facility-management console. The product helps buildings and households see where their electricity goes, what it costs, and what is unsafe. It does this with live telemetry, tariff intelligence and AI-assisted analytics.

Role Description

This is a part-time, remote role for a hands-on engineer who can build, ship and lead. You will own delivery across a Flutter mobile app and a React-based web console. You will guide a small team of developers who work across both frameworks. You will also write production code yourself.

You will wear several hats:

  • Developer: build screens, APIs and data flows across mobile, web and backend.
  • Team lead: plan sprints, review pull requests, unblock teammates and keep quality high.
  • DevOps owner: run CI/CD, containerised deployments, environments, secrets and monitoring.
  • Business-facing engineer: turn requirements from non-technical stakeholders and executives into scoped tasks, estimates and clear status updates.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain a cross-platform mobile app in Flutter/Dart (state management, navigation, offline caching, push notifications via FCM/APNs, deep links, app-store releases).
  • Build and maintain a React/TypeScript web console, using Next.js or Vite, a component library, design tokens, dark/light theming, and canvas/SVG/WebGL data visualisation. It will include line, bar, heatmap, gauge and topology charts.
  • Keep UI behaviour and shared logic consistent across Flutter and React. This covers an API client, auth and role resolution, entitlements, and formatting helpers.
  • Design and build REST APIs with FastAPI (Python) and, where needed, Node.js/TypeScript. Use OpenAPI 3.1 contracts, Pydantic validation, versioned routes, cursor pagination, idempotency keys and problem-details error handling.
  • Model data in PostgreSQL (Supabase). This includes schema design, migrations, indexing, time-partitioned tables, JSONB columns, views, and Row-Level Security (RLS) policies for multi-tenant data isolation.
  • Implement authentication and authorisation: JWT/OAuth2, role-based access control (RBAC), MFA, and audit logging.
  • Build real-time features with WebSockets, Server-Sent Events or database change subscriptions, with throttled live updates and graceful handling of stale or missing data.
  • Work with IoT data pipelines. This means MQTT topics and QoS, message queues (RabbitMQ), idempotent ingestion, de-duplication, and late or out-of-order data. It also means a hot-state cache (Redis/Valkey) and serialisation formats such as JSON and Protobuf.
  • Support analytics and AI features: DuckDB/Parquet queries, scheduled jobs, LLM and RAG integration (embeddings, pgvector, Ollama), and grounded, citation-backed answers.
  • Run DevOps: Docker, Railway deployments, GitHub Actions CI/CD, environment and secret management, TLS, logging, metrics and alerting (Prometheus/Grafana, Sentry), and release management.
  • Write unit, widget, integration and API tests (pytest, Jest/Vitest, Flutter test), enforce code-review standards, and keep technical documentation current.
  • Present progress, risks and trade-offs to business and leadership teams in plain language.

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of professional experience in software development, with shipped production work.
  • Working knowledge of both Flutter/Dart and React/TypeScript. You do not need to be an expert in both, but you must be able to build and review in either.
  • Solid grounding in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5 and CSS3, including responsive design, Tailwind or CSS-in-JS, and accessibility basics.
  • Backend experience with Python (FastAPI) or Node.js. You should understand async programming, REST design and API versioning.
  • Strong SQL and PostgreSQL skills: normalisation, query optimisation, indexing, transactions and migrations.
  • Experience with Git/GitHub workflows: branching, pull requests, code review and semantic versioning.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines, and with deploying to a cloud or PaaS platform.
  • Knowledge of Protobuf, GraphQL, Next.js SSR/SSG, PWA, Capacitor, or React Native.
  • Familiarity with authentication and security basics: JWT, OAuth2, CORS, CSRF/XSS and secrets handling.
  • Experience integrating third-party and external APIs: webhook handling, retries with exponential backoff and jitter, rate limiting, and idempotent writes (for example, payment gateways, weather APIs, push services).
  • Familiarity with the medallion (bronze/silver/gold) architecture on S3-compatible object storage. This includes Parquet/Apache Iceberg tables, dbt transformations, Airflow scheduling, and querying with DuckDB or Polars.
  • Clear written and spoken communication, including the ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders and executives.
  • Reliability and ownership. This is part-time, so we need people who commit to their hours and deliver.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Supabase (Auth, Realtime, Storage, RLS), Firebase/FCM, or similar backend-as-a-service tools.
  • MQTT, WebSockets or other real-time and IoT messaging experience.
  • Redis, RabbitMQ, Celery/Arq, or background-job patterns.
  • Data visualisation (Chart.js, ECharts, D3, Recharts, canvas/WebGL) and dashboard UX.
  • State management: Riverpod/Bloc/Provider (Flutter) and Redux/Zustand/React Query (React).
  • Monorepo tooling, OpenAPI/AsyncAPI, and observability (OpenTelemetry, Grafana).
  • LLM/RAG exposure: embeddings, vector search, prompt grounding and evaluation.
  • Interest in energy, utilities, IoT, smart meters or hardware-connected software.
  • Prior experience mentoring juniors or leading a small project.

Working Arrangement:

  • Part-time and remote. You set your own hours inside an agreed weekly schedule, with a few overlap hours for stand-ups and reviews.
  • Who this suits: professionals with a full-time job who want meaningful side work, and people changing careers or between roles who want a real engineering team to join. We expect commitment and consistency in either case.
  • Compensation: 12,000–15,000 per month.
  • Growth path: strong performers will be considered for a full-time position after 3–6 months of consistent, positive work.
