We're hiring a handson FullStack Staff Engineer to lead development and delivery for the Global Specialty Distribution value stream. You will use your strong, practical experience to design and build enterprise applications with Java/Spring Boot, Angular and JPA/Hibernate, deployed in an AWS cloud environment. You'll raise the technical bar for microservices, secure coding, CI/CD, quality, and observabilitymentoring teams, leading design reviews, and partnering across Product, Cloud, Security, and DevOps. Nice to have: experience incorporating GenAI responsibly into development workflows or
product capabilities.
About the Role
As a FullStack Staff Engineer, you will set technical direction and lead by doing. You'll pair with engineers, review designs and code, and personally implement critical frontend and backend features. You'll derisk complex initiatives and ensure our platforms are secure, performant, observable, and costeffective in the cloud.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
- Be handson building software: use your strong, practical fullstack experience to design, code, and ship features across frontend (Angular) and backend (Java/Spring Boot, JPA/Hibernate), including automated tests and production monitoring.
- Own architecture & delivery for multiservice solutions; define reference implementations and lead squads through execution with clear standards and patterns.
- Design and evolve APIs (REST API), domain models, transactions, and data access; apply solid performance and reliability practices (caching, pagination, resilience).
- Engineer for the cloud (AWS) at a high level: design for reliability, security, scalability, and cost; apply sound patterns for configuration, secrets, and runtime operations.
- Frontend excellence: build accessible, performant UI experiences; manage state, component design, and testing; collaborate closely with product/design for user value.
- Quality & observability: enforce unit/integration/e2e testing, contract and performance testing; instrument services with logs, metrics, and traces; uphold SLOs and error budgets.
- DevSecOps: champion CI/CD, trunkbased development, code reviews, environment strategy, and progressive delivery to enable frequent, safe releases.
- Security & compliance: apply secure coding practices, dependency hygiene, leastprivilege access, and data protection aligned to policy.
- Technical leadership: mentor senior/principal engineers, run design reviews, and uplift engineering craftsmanship across teams through pairing and reusable templates.
- Operational excellence: guide incident response and postincident reviews; support capacity planning and responsible cost management.
What You'll Bring (Required Qualifications)
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including enterprisescale systems and production ownership.
- Strong, handson fullstack expertise building enterprise applications with Java/Spring Boot, JPA/Hibernate, and Angular or React (with TypeScript).
- Depth in distributed systems fundamentals: API design, idempotency, eventual consistency, retries/backoff, circuit breakers, and caching.
- Proven leadership at Staff/Lead/Principal level: mentoring, design governance, crossteam influence, and raising engineering standards.
- Working knowledge of cloud architecture concepts (preferably AWS) and CI/CD practices to deliver and operate secure, reliable software.
Nice to Have (Preferred)
- Experience applying GenAI in development workflows or product features with a responsibleuse mindset.
- Background in insurance/financial services or other regulated domains.
- Experience guiding modernization (monolith decomposition, domain boundaries, strangler patterns, or cloud migration).
