Key Responsibilities
- Build and ship end-to-end products, including backend services, web interfaces, APIs, and AI/LLM layers.
- Integrate LLMs into real-world workflows such as content generation, summarisation, assessment, analysis, and intelligent automation.
- Design and build multi-lingual user interfaces that work effectively with regional languages, beyond simple translation of labels and content.
- Work with messy and unstructured government data, including data ingestion, cleaning, reconciliation, transformation, and reporting.
- Build applications that work reliably under constrained conditions, including low-end devices, weak networks, and environments requiring offline tolerance.
- Rapidly build working prototypes when stakeholders or departments need to validate an idea, and subsequently harden successful prototypes for production use.
- Take complete ownership of applications in production, including monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance, and ongoing support.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
- Make pragmatic engineering decisions, balancing speed of delivery, quality, scalability, and maintainability.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience building and shipping full-stack applications in production.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript with hands-on experience in React.
- Strong backend development experience with Node.js or Python.
- Hands-on experience integrating LLM APIs into production applications.
- Strong understanding of prompt engineering, structured outputs, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), and LLM failure handling.
- Good understanding of databases, schema design, APIs, data processing, and data pipelines.
- Experience with cloud deployment and infrastructure on GCP, AWS, or similar cloud platforms.
- Strong understanding of both frontend and backend development — you should be comfortable owning the complete application rather than handing off the parts you like less.
- Experience building applications that work effectively in low-bandwidth, low-resource, or offline-tolerant environments is highly valuable.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a fast, pragmatic, and execution-focused mindset.
- Ability to distinguish between when a prototype is good enough for validation and when it needs to be engineered for production.
