Job Description

Build the Infrastructure Layer for AI-Native Software

Specmatic is looking for ambitious, curious, and forward-thinking Full Stack AI Engineering Interns / Trainees to join our core engineering team.

We believe the future of software development will be driven by AI agents. But autonomous agents require something critical to operate safely at scale: reliable executable contracts.

Instead of traditional interviews and algorithm rounds, we are giving candidates an opportunity to prove their skills through real-world engineering.

If you can learn quickly, build practical systems, and communicate your ideas clearly, we want to hear from you.

The Challenge-Based Selection Process

To create an equal playing field, our evaluation process is entirely outcome-driven:

  1. Learn (10 Hours): Complete the free, self-paced Specademy (https://academy.specmatic.io/) course to learn modern Spec-Driven API Development. (Earn a certificate after completion)
  2. Build: Integrate Specmatic into an existing personal, academic, or side project. Your goal is to eliminate integration uncertainty by creating executable contracts that can guide both humans and AI coding agents.
  3. Showcase: Demonstrate your implementation by either:
  • Recording a short 5–10 minute technical walkthrough video, OR
  • Writing a technical blog post explaining your approach, architecture, and learnings.

What You'll Work On

As part of the Specmatic engineering team, you will help build cutting-edge tooling for AI-native software development, including:

  • AI-assisted API development workflows
  • Executable contract systems for coding agents
  • API testing, mocking, and resiliency tooling
  • Developer experience (DevEx) platforms
  • Full-stack product engineering
  • Distributed systems and integration tooling

You will work closely with engineers, architects, and open-source contributors solving real-world API and AI engineering challenges at scale.

Who Should Apply

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Love building products and systems
  • Have worked on at least one full-stack project using APIs
  • Enjoy learning new technologies independently
  • Can explain technical ideas clearly
  • Are excited about the future of AI-assisted software engineering

Eligibility

Candidates pursuing or holding a degree in:

  • B.Tech / B.E. (CS, IT, ECE, or related fields)
  • BCA / MCA
  • B.Sc / M.Sc (Computer Science / IT)

Experience
  • 0–1 years
  • Final-year students and fresh graduates are welcome

Bonus Points
  • Open-source contributions
  • Personal projects or hackathons
  • Experience with React, Node.js, Java, Kotlin, TypeScript, Python, or APIs
  • Technical writing or conference presentations
  • Experience with AI agents, distributed systems, or developer tooling

Why This Process Exists

Anyone can claim AI skills on a résumé.

We care more about:

  • curiosity,
  • execution,
  • learning velocity,
  • engineering thinking,
  • and communication.

We are looking for builders, innovators, and next-generation engineering leaders who can learn quickly, think deeply, and build real-world systems in the age of AI.
