Role Purpose
The French Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality
French language instruction aligned with
IB (MYP & DP) and
Cambridge (Lower Secondary & IGCSE) frameworks. The role focuses on developing students
listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, fostering intercultural understanding, and preparing students for external assessments through communicative and skills-based pedagogy.
Key Responsibilities
- Curriculum Planning & Programme Alignment
- Plan and deliver lessons aligned with:
- IB MYP Language Acquisition framework
- IB DP French (Language B / Ab Initio, as applicable)
- Cambridge Lower Secondary French
- Cambridge IGCSE French (0520) or equivalent
- Develop:
- Annual plans, unit planners, and lesson plans
- Skill-progression maps from Middle School to High School
- Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment across IB and Cambridge programmes.
- Integrate culture, context, and authentic resources into language learning
- Teaching & Learning
- Deliver engaging, communicative, and student-centred French lessons.
- Teach and develop:
- Listening comprehension
- Speaking and pronunciation
- Reading comprehension
- Writing accuracy and fluency
- Use a variety of strategies including:
- Task-based learning
- Role plays, debates, and presentations
- Authentic texts and audio-visual materials
- Promote intercultural awareness and global citizenship.
- Assessment & Feedback
- Design and implement assessments aligned with:
- IB Language Acquisition criteria (AD)
- Cambridge assessment objectives and mark schemes
- Prepare students for internal and external assessments, including:
- Listening, reading, writing, and speaking exams
- Oral assessments and presentations
- Provide timely, targeted, and actionable feedback.
- Track student progress and use data to inform instruction and differentiation.
- Participate in moderation and standardisation processes.
- Exam Preparation & Academic Rigor
- Prepare students systematically for:
- Cambridge IGCSE French examinations
- IB DP Ab initio French assessments
- Teach exam strategies including:
- Command words and task requirements
- Time management and response structure
- Accuracy and coherence in written and oral responses
- Analyse past papers and examiner reports to improve outcomes.
- Student Support & Differentiation
- Support students at different proficiency levels (beginner to advanced).
- Implement remedial and enrichment strategies for diverse learners.
- Support EAL/multilingual learners where required.
- Act as a homeroom/advisory teacher if assigned.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress.
- Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in:
- Departmental and collaborative planning meetings
- Professional development and IB/Cambridge training
- School events and cultural activities
- Contribute to language-related initiatives such as:
- Language weeks
- Cultural celebrations
- Exchange or immersion programmes (where applicable)
- Uphold school policies, safeguarding practices, and academic integrity.
- Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate records including:
- Lesson plans and unit planners
- Assessment data and reports
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree or Advance certifications in French.
- Teaching qualification (B.Ed.).
- Proven experience teaching Middle School and/or High School French.
- IB MYP / DP training in Language Acquisition/Language B/Ab Initio
- Experience teaching Cambridge IGCSE French.
- International school teaching experience.
- Familiarity with CEFR-aligned language assessment.
- This is a full-time, on-campus role requiring complete professional commitment.
- Concurrent employment, freelance work, or private tuition during the academic year is not permitted.
- Pursuing any regular academic programme (full-time or part-time) that interferes with school responsibilities is not permissible.
- Candidates must be able to fully dedicate their time and professional focus to the school and students.
