FPGA Engineer

Location: Bengaluru, India

Type: Full time

Experience: 3+ years

About ULOOK

ULOOK is a deep-tech company pioneering an Autonomous RF Signal Intelligence Stack from orbit. We develop autonomous satellite swarms and advance RF sensing technologies which transform faint electromagnetic emissions into real-time intelligence. Utilising our proprietary technology we identify, geolocate and fingerprint complex signals in environments where traditional sensors fail.

We operate at the intersection of defense, space, and intelligence, providing global partners with advanced RF, maritime, and aerial surveillance capabilities, strengthening security and situational awareness across all domains.

Role Overview

We are looking for an FPGA Engineer to build high-performance SDR pipelines and RF data systems that operate under real-world constraints. This role involves owning critical parts of the digital signal chain, from high-speed data capture to real-time processing and system integration.

You will work closely with RF, DSP, and embedded systems teams to design systems that handle wideband signals, maintain timing integrity, and deliver reliable performance in demanding environments.

Key Responsibilities

You will design and build FPGA systems that:

  • Capture and process wideband RF data streams with strict latency and throughput constraints
  • Implement real-time DSP pipelines for filtering, detection, and signal characterization
  • Interface with high-speed converters and RF front-ends using JESD204B/C and related protocols
  • Manage multi-clock domain systems and ensure robust timing closure across complex designs
  • Integrate RFSoC or Zynq-based platforms with external systems over PCIe, Ethernet, and embedded interfaces
  • Support system bring-up, debug, and validation using both simulation and hardware setups
  • Contribute to architecture decisions that balance performance, resource usage, and system reliability.

This is a hands-on role where you will see your designs move from RTL to deployed hardware.

What We're Looking For

Must-Have

  • Bachelor's degree in EE/ECE/RF Engineering or equivalent
  • 3 + years of FPGA design experience in complex systems
  • Strong RTL skills (Verilog/VHDL)
  • Proficiency with Xilinx Vivado/Vitis or Intel Quartus
  • Full FPGA lifecycle experience: design → simulation → synthesis → bring-up
  • High-speed interface experience: PCIe, JESD204, Ethernet, SerDes
  • Understanding of multi-clock domains, CDC, STA, and timing closure
  • DSP fundamentals: FFT, filters, correlation
  • Familiarity with SoC architectures and AMBA protocols (AXI/AHB/APB)

Good-to-Have / Differentiators

  • Master's degree in EE/RF/Microwave/Communications
  • Experience in aerospace, space, or high-reliability systems
  • Hardware-software co-design and system integration experience
  • MATLAB/Simulink to HDL workflow experience
  • Familiarity with RF systems: IQ correction, AGC, phased arrays
  • Experience with RF lab equipment (spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators)
  • Embedded/firmware development experience in C/C++

Why Join ULOOK

  • Work on real RF systems that operate in space, not just simulations or isolated lab setups
  • Own meaningful subsystems and see them through from design to deployment
  • Be part of a small, high-caliber team solving technically hard problems
  • Build systems that combine RF, DSP, and distributed sensing in ways that are still evolving
  • Early-stage environment with significant ownership and growth potential
