Wnted (Centscape) is building a new way for consumers to afford the things they want — without taking on debt. Users save automatically toward products across different retailers, track their progress, and redeem their savings when ready to purchase. Backed by Berkeley SkyDeck, the company is preparing for public launch with thousands already on the waitlist.
We are hiring a
Founding Backend Engineer to own and build Wnted's core financial infrastructure — in-house ledgers, ACH deposit flows, reconciliation, webhook processing, security controls, and recurring payment systems — all in Golang.
What You Will Work On
- Build and own the financial engine in Golang — ledgers, ACH flows, reconciliation, and recurring deposit infrastructure
- Design and implement per-user ledger systems with idempotency, deduplication, and audit trails
- Build ACH payment workflows including initiation, settlement, chargeback controls, and failure recovery
- Implement reconciliation between payment service providers, internal ledger, and bank accounts
- Build secure webhook processing with signature verification, replay protection, and rate limiting
- Implement background workers, cron-based schedulers, retries, and distributed locking for recurring payment plans
- Build and harden security controls — access controls, secrets management, provider token security, audit logging, and vulnerability identification
- Integrate with KYC, identity verification, and fraud/chargeback detection systems
- Guide and mentor the existing development team; contribute to architecture decisions and code reviews
- Respond to production incidents and lead incident resolution
Must-Have Requirements
- Production-level Golang — current or recent primary language (Python is a non-starter; Java considered only in exceptional cases)
- Prior professional experience at a US-based fintech company — or contracted/embedded with a US fintech team
- Demonstrable experience building real money-movement systems — in-house ledgers, ACH flows, or reconciliation in production
- Deep understanding of ACH and banking rails — not just theoretical
- Strong experience with idempotency, webhooks, background workers, retries, and failure recovery
- Strong PostgreSQL skills — transactions, locking, indexing, and data modeling
- Hands-on fintech-grade security — access controls, secrets management, audit logging, vulnerability identification
- Prior startup / early-stage experience — comfortable with ambiguity and changing priorities
- Proven live coding ability — must be able to build, not just describe
- Technical leadership and ownership — able to architect, decide, mentor, and ship without hand-holding; CTO path available
Good to Have
- BaaS / banking rails experience (Unit, Column Bank, Modern Treasury, or equivalent)
- Cross-border payments or settlement experience
- Experience at a YC-backed company
- Strong educational background (IIT or equivalent)
- KYC, fraud, AML, or chargeback systems experience
- Event-driven / queue-based architecture (Kafka, SQS, or equivalent)
- Direct integration experience with payment service providers (Stripe, Dwolla, Moov, etc.)
