Job Description

Job Title: Firmware Validation Engineer

Experience: 5+ Years

Location: Hyderabad

Work Mode: Onsite / In-office

We are seeking an experienced Firmware Validation Engineer to join the RTC (Real Time Controller) team. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the role will focus on validating firmware and subsystems for grid products such as Protection Relays, Controllers, and Bay Control Units. The position plays a key role in improving product quality, security, test coverage, and test automation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform configuration, manual testing, and automated testing of grid products including Protection Relays, Bay Controllers, and Control Systems.
  • Review specifications and design documents; create and execute manual and automated test cases across multiple builds.
  • Collaborate closely with development and product teams to identify, analyze, and resolve internal and external issues.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot technical, hardware, software, and performance-related problems.
  • Detect, document, and report defects or improvement opportunities promptly.
  • Contribute to test automation, quality improvement, and enhanced customer experience.
  • Work in an Agile environment, delivering outcome-based user stories and value-stream-driven results.
  • Proactively initiate and participate in focused working groups for specific technical topics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional and global teams across GE Renewable Energy businesses.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering / Technology.
  • 5+ years of experience in firmware, subsystem, or validation testing.
  • Strong experience in test automation using Python; basic knowledge of C/C++.
  • Knowledge of electrical equipment such as Relays and Controllers.
  • Hands-on experience with communication protocols: IEC 60870-5-103 / 101 / 104, Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850.
  • Familiarity with testing tools used in the power industry (e.g., TMW, IED Scout, ASE, Omicron).
  • Good understanding of Ethernet networks and their configuration.
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity concepts.
  • Experience with operating systems: Windows, Linux, and RTOS.
