Role Overview

We are seeking a FinOps Cloud Automation Engineer (Python) to design, implement, and optimize automation workflows that support cloud financial management and cost optimization across Azure, AWS, and GCP.

You will work at the intersection of cloud engineering, financial governance, and data integrationbuilding scalable automation pipelines and tooling that enable measurable and sustainable cloud cost savings.

This role is ideal for an engineer with strong Python skills, hands-on experience with cloud APIs, and a passion for turning complex cost optimization levers into repeatable, automated solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Automation & Scripting

  • Build and maintain automation scripts and pipelines (primarily in Python) to support:
  • Cloud cost optimization
  • Tagging enforcement
  • Resource governance across Azure, AWS, and GCP

Cost & Usage Data Integration

  • Integrate and operationalize data from cloud cost tools such as:
  • Cloudability, Azure Cost Management, AWS Cost Explorer, and GCP Billing
  • Develop API-based workflows to extract, transform, and centralize cloud cost and usage data.

Optimization Engineering

  • Implement and automate optimization actions such as:
  • Resource rightsizing
  • Auto-scheduling of non-production workloads
  • Reserved instance / commitment tracking
  • Unused resource cleanup (idle resources, unattached volumes, unused IPs, etc.)

Data & Reporting Integration

  • Collaborate with data visualization and reporting teams to feed clean, normalized data into:
  • Power BI dashboards
  • KPI scorecards and executive reports

Tagging & Governance

  • Ensure tagging strategy compliance through:
  • Automated validation and remediation routines
  • Tag coverage and accuracy checks across CSPs

Tooling & Platform Improvement

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of:
  • FinOps tooling
  • Internal automation libraries
  • Integration patterns and playbooks

Delivery & Collaboration

  • Work in a globally distributed team following Agile/Scrum delivery practices.
  • Partner closely with program leads, data analysts, cloud architects, and finance stakeholders to:
  • Identify savings opportunities
  • Define automation use cases
  • Validate financial impact

Required Skills & Qualifications

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, automation, or DevOps within a multi-cloud or large enterprise IT environment.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and API integration.

Experience working with cloud cost and usage APIs, such as:

  • Azure Consumption APIs
  • AWS Cost Explorer APIs
  • GCP Billing APIs

Strong understanding of cloud cost optimization concepts, including:

  • Rightsizing, reservations/commitments
  • Tagging strategies
  • Scheduling and lifecycle management of resources

Familiarity with FinOps tooling such as:

  • Cloudability, CloudHealth, or equivalent native CSP cost tools.

Hands-on experience with:

  • CI/CD workflows
  • Version control (e.g., Git)
  • Basic infrastructure-as-code practices (e.g., Terraform, ARM/Bicep, CloudFormation any is acceptable).

Design & Soft Skills

  • Ability to design scalable, maintainable automation solutions aligned with enterprise financial KPIs.
  • Strong documentation skillsable to clearly capture workflows, runbooks, and design decisions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with FinOps Frameworks or Cloud Financial Management principles.
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining automation pipelines using:
  • GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or Terraform-based workflows.
  • Understanding of cloud governance frameworks, tagging policies, and cost allocation strategies (business units, cost centers, products, etc.).
  • Exposure to Power BI or experience collaborating with BI / analytics teams on cost dashboards.
  • Experience supporting large-scale optimization programs across multiple portfolios, business units, or cost centers.
