Role Description The Finishing and Sanding Head of Department (HOD) is a full-time, on-site role based at Kaarya International's manufacturing facility in Faridabad. This role oversees all finishing and sanding operations for wooden and upholstered furniture, ensuring surfaces meet design specifications, durability standards, and export-quality requirements. The HOD plans and allocates daily work, supervises finishing and sanding teams, and monitors adherence to process guidelines, safety norms, and production timelines. Responsibilities include setting quality benchmarks, inspecting in-process and finished goods, coordinating with design, production, and quality assurance teams, and driving continuous improvement in finishing techniques and material usage. The HOD also trains team members, troubleshoots finishing issues, maintains equipment and consumables, and supports timely dispatch of orders aligned with international buyer expectations.
Qualifications
- Strong expertise in furniture finishing processes, including sanding, staining, polishing, and surface preparation for wooden and upholstered products.
- Hands-on experience with finishing tools and machinery, such as sanders, spray equipment, buffers, and related maintenance practices.
- Proficiency in quality control for finishing, including visual inspection, defect identification, corrective action, and adherence to export standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, finish samples, and buyer specifications, and translate them into practical finishing instructions.
- Team leadership skills, including workforce planning, training, performance monitoring, and creating a safe, organized shop-floor environment.
- Experience coordinating with production, design, and logistics teams to meet delivery timelines and manage finishing workflow efficiently.
- Knowledge of safety standards, environmental regulations, and proper handling of finishing materials, solvents, and coatings.
- Relevant industry experience in furniture manufacturing or woodworking; prior HOD or supervisory experience in finishing and sanding is highly preferred.
- Diploma or degree in woodworking, furniture design, industrial production, or a related field is an advantage; equivalent practical experience
