Job Description

About the Role

The candidate will be a critical member of the Finance function, owning the completeness and accuracy of the books. The role combines deep technical accounting with hands-on regulatory compliance, audit management, and process ownership — and offers direct visibility to the Group CFO.

This is a high-accountability role, suited to a CA who has built strong technical depth in their early years and is now ready to take full charge of a business unit's financial control environment.

What You Will Own

1. Books & Period-End Close

  • Own the complete and accurate general ledger for assigned entities / verticals — from source transactions to trial balance.
  • Drive a disciplined month-end close process: accruals, provisions, prepayments, intercompany eliminations, and ledger scrutiny completed within defined timelines.
  • Maintain a zero-surprise posture — all material balances must be reconciled, aged items explained, and open items resolved proactively.
  • Prepare entity-level MIS packs and financial dashboards for the Financial Controller and CFO on a monthly basis.

2. Financial Statements & Statutory Audit

  • Independently prepare standalone Ind AS financial statements (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow, Notes to Accounts) for assigned entities.
  • Own the statutory audit relationship for assigned entities — manage Big 4 / category I auditor queries, drive audit closures as per audit calendar, and target zero re-opening of closed items.
  • Ensure correct application of relevant Ind AS standards: Ind AS 109 / 113 / 107 / 32 for financial instruments; Ind AS 115 for revenue; Ind AS 116 for leases; Ind AS 12 for taxes and all other relevant Ind AS applicable to the vertical.
  • Support Group consolidation by providing accurate entity numbers, related-party schedules, and elimination entries on time.

3. Internal Financial Controls (IFC)

  • Design, document and operate the IFC framework for the vertical — covering financial reporting controls, transaction-level controls, and IT-dependent controls within Oracle Fusion.
  • Maintain risk-and-control matrices (RCMs); ensure all key controls are periodically tested and results documented.
  • Track audit observations (statutory and internal) for the vertical; own closure within committed timelines; escalate systemic gaps to the Financial Controller and Group CFO.
  • Support the Group's Internal Auditor during periodic reviews — prepare schedules, respond to queries, and implement recommendations.

4. Regulatory & Tax Compliance

  • Ensure correct direct tax treatment is reflected in the books — TDS (194A / 194H / 194J / 194C / 194LD as applicable), advance tax provisioning, and deferred tax accounting (Ind AS 12).
  • Manage GST compliance for assigned entities: output tax determination, ITC eligibility, blocked credits, RCM applicability, and reconciliation of GSTR-2B vs. books.
  • Liaise with the Tax Head (HF) for Income Tax return inputs, tax audit schedules, and transfer pricing documentation where applicable.
  • Support compliance with applicable sectoral regulations.

5. Treasury & Asset Class Accounting

  • Book and reconcile daily treasury trades across applicable asset classes — listed bonds, equity, F&O, commodities, AIFs, unlisted securities, structured products.
  • Apply correct Ind AS 109 classification (FVTPL / FVOCI / Amortised Cost) at instrument level; maintain documentation of business model assessment and SPPI test outcomes.
  • Reconcile MTM valuations against FIMMDA / FBIL / CRISIL prices; maintain a valuation methodology note approved by the CFO and Statutory Auditor.
  • Produce a daily treasury P&L and position report for the CFO / Treasury Head; flag breaks, limit breaches, or valuation anomalies same-day.

6. Process Improvement & Automation

  • Identify and eliminate manual, repetitive tasks in the close and reporting cycle — build Excel automation (macros, Power Query) or work with the AI Lead to deploy agent-based solutions.
  • Actively participate in Oracle Fusion enhancement initiatives; raise system gaps via the Financial Controller and own UAT for changes affecting assigned entities.
  • Document all key processes in standard SOPs; ensure SOPs are version-controlled and handed over as part of onboarding / succession.

What We Are Looking For

Non-negotiable

  • Chartered Accountant — first attempt strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience in BFSI sector, preferably in multi business, multi entity set up with exposure in Prop Trading, Asset Management, Wealth Management, NBFC, broking, treasury, or Big 4 FS practice.
  • Hands-on experience in preparation of Ind AS financial statements and independent management of statutory audit — not just support / assistance.
  • Solid working knowledge of Ind AS standards relevant to the vertical (Ind AS 109 / 113 / 107 / 32 for markets role and other relevant Ind AS across all roles).
  • Strong command of direct and indirect tax compliance — TDS, advance tax, GST, deferred tax.
  • Advanced Excel: macros (VBA), Power Query, array / dynamic formulae, pivot-based MIS models.

Strongly preferred

  • Exposure to Oracle Fusion or a comparable ERP (SAP / Tally Enterprise) in a multi-entity environment.
  • Working knowledge of IFC frameworks under Companies Act 2013 / ICAI guidance.
  • Familiarity with SEBI AIF / NBFC-ML / IRDAI regulations as applicable to the vertical.
  • Experience handling Big 4 statutory auditors independently.

Behavioural attributes

  • High ownership — treats the books as their own; does not wait to be asked.
  • Process-first mindset — documents before doing; builds for scale, not just for today.
  • Automation appetite — curious about digital tools; willing to invest time learning new platforms.
  • Precision under pressure — delivers accurate numbers on time even during peak close / audit cycles.
  • Straight communicator — surfaces bad news early, escalates the right things, comfortable saying no when a transaction is non-compliant.

Why This Role

  • Exposure to a regulated, multi-entity financial services group spanning — breadth that is rare at this level.
  • Direct line of sight to Group CFO.
  • Active build-out of AI and automation capability within Finance — early movers will shape how the function operates.
