Financial Controllership involves a distinct set of processes and skills that guarantees the true and fair representation of business performance at the cut-off point for the period and creates the transparency on financials for BPM.

We are responsible for in market financials and the end-to-end ownership of financial activities and controls. We business partner with the market and drive in market transformation.

The CG Financial Control teams are organized by region and are accountable for ensuring that the month end close and reporting processes are working effectively & efficiently, identifying, implementing and embedding continual process improvements as well as supporting control agenda (SOX compliance).

The FC Manager is accountable for the accuracy and fair representation of the legal entity financial statements and all the underlying processes that supports the generation of the financial statements, at legal entity level.

The FC Manager, as a member of the Financial Controlling Team and the wider regional Finance team:

  • Is the lead point of contact for in-market Finance teams on all issues relating to Financial Control of the entities under his/her control
  • Drives the Financial Control agenda for the entities under his/her control
  • Has final responsibility for the timely and quality review and submission of monthly financial statements for group reporting purposes and is actively involved in managing the month-end close process
  • Leads all aspects of statutory reporting
  • Ensures that the entities are operating in line with the internal control environment and provides guidance and input to external and internal audits
  • Identifies and leads process improvement projects, manages ad-hoc technical accounting projects and makes day-to-day decisions such as adequacy and appropriateness of month end accruals and provisions.

Purpose of the Role:

FC Manager ensures that the numbers in the financial systems are accurate and complete by fully understanding the operations of the business, applying Diageo reporting rules and accounting standards and defining, maintaining and adhering to Finance processes and controls that capture the right information in the source systems.

The FC Manager is accountable for the statutory view of the numbers (actuals and forecast), controls and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The role covers but is not limited to the following:

  • Management of BFC financial packs by taking responsibility of management accounting and financial accounting
  • Coordination of balance sheet review at a legal entity level ensuring that all risks and opportunities are captured and acted upon
  • Coordinate the month-end close providing an essential link between FR and FP&A team
  • Lead statutory reporting process

In addition, the NAM - Corporate Financial Controlling Manager would require to be responsible for the smooth management of a lot of one-off / non-standard items requiring strong accounting knowledge, e.g.:

  • Legal settlements - Work closely with the legal advisors and determine the possibility of any permanent liability or provisions to be created for the legal settlements. Agree on the extent of contingent liability for reporting disclosure purpose. Also plays a critical role in the risk assessment process by providing input to Risk Management Committee (RMC) and FAC (Finance Assurance committee) reporting process
  • Pension and insurance accounting - Determine accounting impact and provide solutions to the complex pension accounting by working closing with HR teams. Work closely with the insurance team and involved in the assessment of coverage for entire Diageo NA from future risk perspective.
  • Taxes - Work with Tax experts and tax teams to assess the current and deferred tax liability in accordance with US GAAP. Also work with Group tax for any issues related to tax reporting.
  • Central provisions - determine adequacy of the provisions by working with various functions.
  • Goodwill and brand asset accounting - Annual impairment review is sole responsibility of the role holder. Also advises on the accounting implications for any new brand development exercise to be considered as intangible asset. Strong knowledge of difference of treatment between US GAAP and IFRS is expected here
  • Equity accounting - Strong knowledge and experience of accounting standards applied during any acquisitions by using equity method. Also work closely with Group and regional Treasury for accounting impact of any capital restructuring and its impact on intercompany loans
  • Intercompany loans and accounting -ensure the statutory implications are understood and explained to auditors
  • Lease accounting - ensure controls around lease accounting are effectively operated. Also review of operating and finance lease across Diageo NA by working closely with the external valuers and surveyors and also Real estate teams
  • OIE budget management - Ensure events which translate to Other income and expenses are accounted correctly and also budget are supervised and monitored for any variance across NAM region
  • Consolidated Statutory Financial Statement for NAM which includes Investment Vs Share Capital reconciliation, Intercompany Eliminations, etc within NAM entities. Ensure the Reported Management numbers reconciles with Legal entity book and Statutory books.
  • Project Voyager -Overseeing smooth transition of financial information from SAP ECC to S4 while ensuring operational efficiencies in data and processes.
  • Acting as an orchestrator between various finance and other function to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Manage Dividend payment to Group from NAM
  • Ensure all the key financial and non-financial details are presented to the NAM FLT through Finance Governance Board.
  • New Business Integration Lead - Work with Business Development, NAM Market, Group Teams during new Acquisition
  • Goodwill and brand asset accounting - Annual impairment review
  • Impairment assessment for investments.
  • Building one NAM team - connected, energized behind the same outcome. Strong connection with GBO, Group Tax, Supply, FP&A

Top Accountabilities:

The roles and responsibility FC Manager includes but are not limited to

  • Work with the region to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for both group and local statutory purposes, incl. formal sign-off of the financial statement for external reporting
  • Continuously improve the quality of accounting and implement changes in accounting standards, policies & procedures
  • Lead and coordinate monthly review of balance sheets and Oversee the monthly GL reconciliation process
  • Pro-actively mobilise the legal entity controls and risk management agenda, ensuring risks are appropriately managed
  • Coordination the submission of actual and forecasted cashflow and supporting working capital reporting
  • Audit (PwC, Internal audit, tax) coordination and effective resolution of potential audit issues
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and participate in automation or system enhancement initiatives

Qualifications:

Education/Work Experience

. Chartered Accountant/ ACCA

  • 10-12 years post qualification experience in the relevant field of controlling/accounting/audit roles in multinational companies. FMCG industry experience is preferred but not essential.

Behavioural skills

. Excellent Business English language (verbal and written), able to communicate effectively. Ability to present complex information in a simplified manner

. Ability to work collaboratively with and influence key stakeholders, incl. FP&A leads

. Strong strategic ability to understand / craft the story on performance
