About The Role
The Financial Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial and commercial aspects of the organization and ensuring the effective functioning of the finance team. The role includes ownership of budgeting and planning, treasury, accounting, taxation, compliance, MIS and controls, auditing, and team management. The Financial Controller will work closely with senior leadership to drive financial discipline, strategic planning, and overall business performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Budgeting and Planning:
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
- Support leadership in strategic planning and financial decision-making.
- Design and implement finance systems and processes aligned with business objectives.
- Assist in finalizing the annual budget in coordination with business and functional heads.
- Treasury and Banking:
- Oversee treasury operations and ensure compliance with financial covenants.
- Manage banking relationships and statutory financial obligations.
- Ensure effective cash flow management including payments, collections, and banking arrangements.
- Negotiate and monitor financial contracts to ensure optimal value.
- Investor Relations:
- Support leadership in maintaining effective investor and stakeholder communication.
- Accounting:
- Strengthen accounting standards and internal financial processes.
- Ensure accurate and timely closure of books of accounts.
- Maintain control over financial reporting systems and fixed asset registers.
- Provide periodic financial analysis to business and functional leaders.
- Ensure statutory compliance across applicable jurisdictions.
- Taxation and Compliance:
- Oversee direct and indirect tax compliance including GST.
- Ensure accurate tax accounting and timely filing of statutory returns.
- Coordinate with external consultants when required.
- MIS and Controls:
- Develop and monitor financial KPIs, dashboards, ROI assessments, and trend analysis.
- Implement cost control measures to enhance profitability.
- Ensure timely preparation of financial statements and cash flow reports.
- Conduct quarterly budget versus actual reviews and present insights to leadership.
- Monitor receivables, collections, and bank reconciliations.
- Stay updated on changes in financial regulations and ensure timely implementation.
- Auditing:
- Lead internal audit processes to ensure operational efficiency and compliance.
- Coordinate with external auditors and ensure a strong audit trail.
- Team Management:
- Lead and develop a high-performing finance team.
- Conduct performance appraisals and support professional development.
- Provide training to enhance team capability and efficiency.
Candidate Profile
- Chartered Accountant (CA) with at least 5 years of experience as Finance Controller, Head of Finance, or similar role reporting to top management.
- Strong expertise in financial reporting, compliance, business analysis, and performance monitoring.
- High awareness of regulatory and statutory requirements.
- Proven track record of driving value creation and supporting business growth.
- Experience working in cross-functional and matrix organizations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in Tally, MS Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strategic thinker with strong ownership and entrepreneurial mindset.
- Experience managing finance functions in organizations with turnover of INR 50+ crore and leading teams of 10+ members.
- Demonstrated experience in setting up financial processes and driving data-based decision-making.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to understand and support business models beyond core finance.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in the HVAC or energy sector.
- Experience working in and scaling high-growth startups.
