Role OverviewThe Finance Manager (CPA) will lead end-to-end accounting, reporting, and compliance for Skilligent and our cannabis-industry clients. This role requires strong US GAAP expertise, 280E understanding, cost accounting for cultivation/manufacturing, and the ability to operate in a fast-scaling environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Accounting & Reporting- Manage full-cycle accounting, general ledger, month-end closing, and financial statements under US GAAP.
- Prepare accurate P&L, balance sheet, cash flow statements, and variance analysis.
- Ensure proper revenue recognition for B2B, managed services, and subscription products.
Cannabis-Specific Financial Compliance- Apply IRC Section 280E rules to ensure compliant tax positioning.
- Manage cost of goods sold (COGS) allocations for cultivation, processing, and retail.
- Work with METRC/seed-to-sale data to validate inventory valuation and audit trails.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies.
Budgeting, Forecasting & FP&A- Build annual budgets, rolling forecasts, scenario models, and financial dashboards.
- Provide insights on margins, pricing models, and operational KPIs.
- Lead financial planning for new product launches and expansion initiatives.
Cash Flow & Operational Finance- Oversee AP/AR, vendor management, and cash-flow planning.
- Improve working capital processes and financial controls.
- Implement automation tools and tech-based financial workflows.
Strategic Projects- Evaluate technology investments, process automation, and financial systems (ERP/POS/METRC integrations).
- Support financial due diligence, partnerships, and growth initiatives.
- Drive financial SOPs, internal controls, and audit readiness.
Qualifications- Licensed CPA (active).
- 610 years of total finance/accounting experience.
- Minimum 23 years of experience in the cannabis industry (cultivation, manufacturing, retail, or ancillary services).
- Strong expertise in US GAAP, 280E, cost accounting, and financial modeling.
- Experience working with METRC, QuickBooks, ERP systems, and cannabis POS platforms.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to thrive in an early-stage, fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills- Experience in multi-entity consolidations.
- Background in SaaS/tech-enabled services financial operations.
- Knowledge of state-by-state cannabis compliance requirements.
- Strong Excel and data visualization (Power BI/Tableau) skills.
