Financial Controller oversees accounting operations, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, joint-venture accounting, and capital budgeting. This critical leadership role requires managing complex cost structures, mitigating industry-specific financial risks, and ensuring adherence to international standards like IFRS.
Core Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting & Compliance: Direct monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closes, prepare statutory accounts, and ensure compliance with IFRS and local petroleum tax or regulatory frameworks.
- O&G Specific Accounting: Oversee joint-venture (JV) accounting, production-sharing contracts (PSCs), asset retirement obligations (ARO), and capital expenditure tracking for upstream, midstream, or downstream operations.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead annual budgeting, long-term financial modeling, and cash flow forecasting relative to volatile commodity pricing.
- Internal Controls & Risk: Implement robust internal financial controls, manage operational risk profiles, and coordinate internal/external audits.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the regional or corporate finance and accounting teams.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field; Master's degree or MBA is a strong asset.
- Certifications: Mandatory professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, or CMA.
- Experience: 8 to 12+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 3 to 5 years specialized in the oil, gas, or energy sector.
- Technical Skills: Advanced ERP system proficiency (SAP, Oracle), strong Excel financial modeling, and familiarity with joint-venture billing systems
