Job Description
Position: Field Intern (Food & Nutrition Development Project)
Location: Guwahati, Assam stationed on-site at the pilot government school, Kamrup Metro district
Duration: 30 operating days (pilot trial period), with possibility of extension into Phase 2
Reporting to: Swarup Anand Dutta
Type: Full-time, on-site internship
About The Project
The Food & Nutrition Development Project is developing nutritionally enriched, ready-to-cook premix meal solutions for school-going children. As part of the pilot phase, the project is conducting a one-month trial at a government school in Guwahati.
Role Overview
The Field Intern will be the organisation's on-ground representative at the pilot school for the full duration of the trial. This is a hands-on, school-based role requiring daily presence to oversee meal preparation, collect feedback, monitor operations, and ensure the trial runs smoothly and generates reliable data for the post-trial review.
Key Responsibilities
Be present at the school daily during meal preparation and service to observe and support the process
Demonstrate correct preparation of each new recipe to the school cook on its first day of use
Verify portioning accuracy 160g for Primary students, 250g for Upper Primary students
Administer and collect student acceptability feedback forms and teacher/staff feedback forms
Maintain a daily consumption log quantity prepared, quantity served, estimated wastage
Check incoming deliveries against the delivery note verify quantity, pack condition, and label accuracy
Monitor storage conditions of premix packs at the school (cool, dry, ventilated, FIFO practice)
Photograph the finished meal at least once per recipe per week for documentation
Report any operational issues, quality concerns, or delays promptly to the Project Lead
Support compilation of data for the end-of-trial Trial Summary Report
Requirements
Based in or willing to relocate to Guwahati for the full duration of the trial
Available to be on-site at the school daily, including on Day 1 of the trial
Background in nutrition, food science, public health, social work, or a related field preferred
Comfortable working directly with school staff, teachers, and young children
Basic proficiency in Assamese and/or Hindi preferred, in addition to English
Good communication skills and attention to detail this role involves consistent, accurate data collection
Prior experience in field research, community work, or school-based programmes is an advantage but not mandatory
