Position : Field Agronomy Intern
Location: Andhra Pradesh (Any Location)
Duties And Responsibilities
- Assist the agronomy team in assessing climatic conditions, soil characteristics, nutrient status, and water availability at farmer fields and nursery sites before plantation activities.
- Support identification of suitable native and exotic tree species for plantation projects.
- Assist in monitoring and supporting nursery operations such as weeding, fertigation, sapling shifting, and general nursery maintenance.
- Help track sapling health and quality parameters to ensure quality control before dispatching plants to the plantation sites.
- Support field teams in land preparation, plantation design/layout, and planting activities.
- Assist in monitoring irrigation scheduling, fertilizer application, weed management, and other maintenance operations at nursery and farm level.
- Assist agronomy teams in guiding farmers on intercropping practices, pest and disease management, plant growth monitoring, fertilizer application, and irrigation scheduling to improve plantation outcomes
- Collect and maintain field records on plantation progress, plant survival rates, growth measurements, soil conditions, and site assessments.
- Support documentation activities including MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, Verification), soil sample collection, and other project-related reporting tasks.
- Assist in supporting training sessions for implementation partner field staff and local nursery workers on best practices for planting, nurturing, and protecting trees
- Participate in project meetings and field discussions (including LSC meetings) related to agroforestry and agricultural development initiatives aimed at improving farmer livelihoods
- Support agronomy teams in research activities related to agroforestry systems and nursery management practices.
- Assist implementation partners and farmers in using field data collection applications such as VANN and ODK.
- Support monitoring of agronomic practices including integrated nutrient management and integrated pest and disease management in plantation projects.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Horticulture or Plantation Crops
- Students currently pursuing final year or recent graduates
- Candidates originating from Andhra Pradesh preferred
- Must have practical exposure to field work or plantation crops
- Willingness to travel extensively within Andhra Pradesh
- Willingness to relocate to project locations if required
- Comfortable working directly with farmers, nursery teams, and field staff
- Strong interest in field agronomy and plantation systems
- Should be fluent in Telugu and either English or Hindi
