Job Summary:
Drives the design chain value proposition by generating the greatest number of design wins in technologies and registrations for customers engaged in product design resulting in growing business. Interface with the engineering departments of customers and suppliers. Performs a variety of product, technical and engineering functions including but not limited to: pre/post sales support, research, design and development.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Proactively develops and implements the technical sales account penetration strategy in each market presenting new products and technologies to current and potential customers develop knowledge to uncover, understand, compare, and contrast the solutions (pre-component selection). Provide valuable participation in supplier/customer design review.
- Good understanding of customer needs relative to product(s), technology, direction, competition, design process and design cycle.
- Identify and develop relationships with all key technical decision makers and influencers in each account.
- Discover design requirements from the system level down to each individual element collaborating with the design, production and/or engineering departments to develop/execute technical strategies that help solve customer design challenges.
- Market supported lines to sales team by driving adoption of advocated solutions, with supplier partners, that meet customer needs and lead to increased design activity, design wins and sales growth.
- Proactively provides general application and product level sales training, proactively align with sales team in securing business. Communicate account calls with suppliers, account managers and/or inside sales.
- Identifies and tracks largest design opportunities from concept to production, utilizing all supplier resources to assure greatest potential for success.
- Creates presentations and other sales tools to enhance technical value and become a trusted advisor to both internal and external customers.
- Manages the product from beginning to end which involves communication and in-depth consultation with customers, sales and vendors.
- Research major industry players to be able to communicate to internal and external customers industry trends and directions.
- A thorough understanding of product lifecycles and the ability to design a full solution based on the customers expectation of product performance, lifecycles and total costs.
- Attend internal and external technical training to complete and maintain certification as necessary.

Work Experience:
- Minimum experience required is typically 5+ years with bachelor's or equivalent. It's possible for a career salesperson to plateau for many years at this level.
Education and Certification(s):

Position Overview
- As part of the Avnet's AMD(Xilinx) Business Unit, Field Application Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership and design support to customers adopting AMD's advanced RF‑class SoC platforms-Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC and Versal RF/ AI Core/Prime/Edge Series.
- The role combines deep technical expertise, customer engagement, and system‑level problem‑solving, enabling customers to accelerate development of high‑performance wireless, Radar, SDR, EW, and RF signal‑processing systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Customer Technical Engagement
- Serve as the primary technical point‑of‑contact for customers designing solutions with AMD Xilinx portfolio ( Expertise on RFSoC and Versal RF devices)
- Understand customer system architecture, RF front‑end needs, converter utilization, and processing requirements.
- Recommend Right AMD-Xilinx products/solutions and support customer through the Design-In, Design-Win and Production-Win phases.
- Conduct Technical presentations, architecture discussions, In-depth technical trainings, design reviews, and solution positioning.
- Work in collaborative manner with Avnet- AMD team, Regular updates on Projects Status & reporting weekly
2. Pre‑Sales Technical Support
- Work with Business Development & Sales teams to drive Design‑Wins and support strategic accounts in Defence, Aerospace, SDR, T&M, Telecom and communication infrastructure.
- Build compelling PoCs, reference designs, and Demos showcasing RFSoC/Versal RF capabilities.
- Create and deliver technical workshops, seminars, and training sessions for customer engineering teams.
3. Post‑Sales Design Support
- Support customers from concept through production, helping with:
- RF data converter configuration (ADC/DAC), DFE blocks
- FPGA fabric design using Vivado
- IP evaluation, performance tuning, and system integration
- Versal AI engines, NoC configuration, and adaptive architecture
- Embedded software development (bare‑metal, Linux, PetaLinux)
- Debug and resolve issues related to timing, JESD204B/C, synchronization, data movement, RF performance, and system bottlenecks.
4. Technical Expertise Development
Maintain strong technical expertise on:
- AMD/Xilinx RFSoC, Versal RF, and Adaptive SoC architectures
- High‑speed interfaces (JESD204B/C, PCIe, Ethernet)
- DSP pipelines, MATLAB/Simulink‑based modeling
- System‑level RF concepts such as DDC/DUC, LO planning, sampling, and digital front end
- Keep up‑to‑date with the AMD roadmap and competitive landscape.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electronics, Electrical, Communications, or related field.
- 4-10 years of experience in FPGA design, RF systems, embedded systems, or signal processing.
Strong hands‑on expertise with:
- AMD Xilinx FPGA tools - Vivado, Vitis, PetaLinux
- RFSoC / Versal platform development
- HDL (VHDL/Verilog) or HLS‑based design
- RF converter configurations, DFE blocks, DSP chains, AI
- High‑speed interfaces: JESD204B/C, PCIe, multi‑gigabit transceivers
- Debug tools: logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers
Preferred/Good-to-Have Skills
Experience in:
- SDR, Radar, EW, Phased arrays
- MATLAB/Simulink modeling
- Embedded C/C++ development on ARM processors
- Networking protocols (10G/25G/100G Ethernet)
- Familiarity with Versal IP blocks, AI Engines, NoC, and system‑level optimization techniques.
- RF measurement and validation workflows
- Awareness of competing product portfolio ( Altera Agilex,etc)
