Job Description

Selvedge is an independent fashion studio in India, working globally across the full chain - design, development, manufacturing, and everything that takes a brand to market.

We're hiring a Fashion Designer who can also run merchandising. You'll design the collection and see it through to an approved sample and bulk order. Half of this role happens at the desk and half on the factory floor. If you only want to design, this isn't the right fit.

What you'll do -

1. Design Collections & Products across Men's & Women's wear.

  • Turn client briefs, references and half-formed ideas into collection plans: category mix, silhouettes, colour, fabric and trim direction.
  • Design for different brands with different customers, price points and markets.
  • Create clean flats and tech packs a factory can follow without calling you: measurements, points of measure, construction details, a complete BOM.
  • Run fittings, write sharp fit comments, and push samples until they're right.
  • Present collections to clients and take their feedback without losing the line's logic.

2. Develop those Collections & Product Designs.

  • Source fabrics, trims and vendors; negotiate rates, MOQs and lead times.
  • Cost every style to a target price before the first sample is cut.
  • Plan and track timelines for every style, from fabric booking to final approval.
  • Run proto, fit, size set and pre-production samples.
  • Chase lab dips, strike-offs and trim approvals until they're signed off.
  • Hand over bulk with quality checks in place and clients kept informed.

Who we're looking for.

  • You notice the inside of a garment before the outside: the seam finish, the facing, the weight of the button.
  • Your portfolio has flats and tech packs in it, and who can explain how every piece was made.
  • You know what a fabric costs before you fall in love with it.
  • You can design something you'd never wear, and do it well.
  • You keep up with both the runway and the mill, and know which matters more on a given day.
  • You're comfortable in Illustrator and Excel. CLO 3D is a bonus.
  • You can talk well with a client right after arguing with a tailor over something.
  • You may have 1 year of experience or 5 years - you know your stuff and are very good at it.

What you get.

  • Work across multiple brands, categories and markets - growth everyday.
  • A seat close to the founder, with autonomy over your decisions.
  • International clients and a studio that's working with, and shaping the next generation of brands.
  • CTC: 5-8 LPA, based on experience.

How to apply.

  • Send your CV and Portfolio to [Confidential Information] with the subject Fashion Designer - [Your Name].
  • In 200 words or less, tell us why you.
