Job Description: Factory Medical Officer (Foundry Industry)
Position Title: Factory Medical Officer (FMO)
Department: Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) / Medical
Location: Unit 1, Kuppepalyam, Coimbatore
Reports To: Head HR & Admin
Experience Required: 35 years (Must include foundry / heavy engineering industry
exposure)
Qualification: MBBS (Mandatory), AFIH / DIH
1. Role Summary
The Factory Medical Officer is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of
employees in a heavy manufacturing (foundry) environment. The role involves occupational health
surveillance, first-aid management, statutory compliance, health education, and close coordination
with HSE teams to mitigate health risks associated with foundry operations such as exposure to
heat, silica dust, noise, fumes, molten metal, and heavy machinery.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Occupational Health & Clinical Care Provide primary medical care to employees for occupational and non-occupational
illnesses/injuries. Manage medical emergencies, burns, heat-stress cases, and injuries specific to foundry
environments. Maintain and operate the factory medical center and ensure availability of essential drugs,
equipment, and first-aid supplies. Conduct initial assessment, stabilization, and referral in case of major accidents. Maintain confidential medical records and ensure documentation as per statutory norms.
B. Occupational Health Surveillance Conduct pre-employment, periodic, and post-employment medical examinations as
per Factories Act / OSHA-equivalent rules. Monitor employees exposed to: o Silica dust / respirable dust o Molten metal fumes o High-temperature work zones o Heavy noise levels o Chemical exposures (resins, binders, coatings, etc.) Track and report health trends, absenteeism patterns, and chronic illness data. Implement monitoring programs for:

o Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) o Audiometry o Vision tests o Blood tests for metal exposure (lead, manganese, etc., depending on process)
C. Statutory Compliance & Documentation
Ensure compliance with relevant laws (Factories Act, Standing Orders, ISO, OHSAS/ISO
45001, OSHA-equivalents). Prepare statutory reports such as: o Health Register o Accident & illness records o Monthly/annual medical reports o Form 32/Health Reports (as per local regulations) Assist during government inspections (Factory Inspector, Pollution Control Board,
ESIC/OSH authorities).
D. Health Risk Management in Foundry Operations Conduct workplace risk assessments for job roles involving: o Melting, pouring, molding, fettling, grinding, core making, etc. Identify and evaluate occupational diseases such as: o Silicosis o Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) o Heat Exhaustion / Heat Stroke o Dermatitis & skin allergies o Respiratory diseases from fumes & dust Recommend preventive actions including: o Enhanced ventilation/extraction systems o PPE usage (respirators, gloves, helmets, heat-resistant clothing) o Improved workstation ergonomics
E. Emergency Preparedness Develop and train employees on emergency first-aid, CPR, burn management, and
chemical spill response. Participate in mock drills involving fire, explosion, molten metal spill, or gas leaks. Maintain tie-ups with nearby hospitals and emergency services. Ensure the availability and readiness of: o First-aid stations o Stretcher and ambulance o Burn management kits o Emergency equipment

F. Health Promotion & Employee Wellness Conduct awareness programs on: o Heat stress management o Respiratory protection o Lifestyle diseases (diabetes, hypertension, obesity) o Tobacco & alcohol cessation o Ergonomics and fatigue management Drive wellness initiatives such as: o Annual health camps o Vaccination programs o Mental health counselling
G. Coordination & Reporting
Work closely with: o Safety Officers o HR & Admin teams o Departmental heads o Environmental health teams Provide medical expertise during: o Accident root-cause analysis o Safety audits and HIRA processes Submit MIS reports to management on monthly/quarterly basis.
3. Required Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of foundry health hazards (silica exposure, heat load, fumes,
molten metal risks). Proficiency in occupational health regulations and statutory compliance. Ability to handle industrial emergencies and trauma cases. Good communication skills to conduct training / awareness programs. Compassionate disposition and strong ethical standards. Data analysis and report writing capability.

5. Additional Preferred Qualifications AFIH (Associate Fellow of Industrial Health) DIH / MOHFW-certified industrial health training
Certifications in emergency medicine or occupational health
Experience in dealing with ESIC, labour authorities, and government inspections
Spoken Language : Hindi , English and Tamil
