Job Description

Role Overview

The Expense Accountant will be responsible for handling the accounting of expenses incurred by the company. The role will focus on expense accounting, liability accounting, payment tracking, payroll accounting, and expense reporting.

The person will ensure that expenses are recorded properly, liabilities are recognised on time, payments are tracked correctly, and reports are prepared for management review.

This is a hybrid role and requires someone who is detail-oriented, organised, and able to work with accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Record and maintain all expense-related accounting entries accurately.
  2. Recognise liabilities for expenses incurred and ensure timely accounting treatment.
  3. Track vendor payments, employee reimbursements, payroll-related payments, and other company expenses.
  4. Support payroll accounting, including salary entries, deductions, provisions, and related liabilities.
  5. Prepare expense reports, burn reports, payable reports, and other management reports.
  6. Maintain proper documentation for invoices, approvals, payment proofs, and expense records.
  7. Coordinate with internal teams for expense details, approvals, supporting documents, and payment status.
  8. Liaise with external auditors and provide required expense-related schedules, reports, and supporting documents.

Key Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  2. Minimum 6 months to 1 year of experience in accounting, expense accounting, accounts payable, or finance operations; maximum experience considered will be up to 2 years.
  3. Excellent understanding of accounting principles, expense entries, liabilities, payments, and payroll-related accounting.
  4. Working experience with Zoho Books is preferred, along with exposure to other accounting software.
  5. Strong attention to detail, organized working style, and ability to prepare clear expense reports, burn reports, payable reports, and accounting summaries.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should come from a finance or accounting background and should have practical exposure to expenses, payables, payroll entries, and payment records.

The person should be able to take ownership of expense accounting and ensure that all expenses and liabilities are properly recorded, tracked, and reported. They should be organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a structured finance environment.
