A multidisciplinary Electric Vehicle (EV) Systems Engineer merges the practical, hands-on capabilities of a service engineer with the advanced architectural knowledge of an integration engineer. This position is responsible for the smooth functioning of electric vehicles, spanning from the initial design and integration stages to maintenance and customer support. The perfect candidate will possess in-depth technical expertise in EV systems, outstanding problem-solving skills, and strong communication abilities.
Key Responsibilities
System Integration and Diagnostics: The engineer is responsible for overseeing the integration of all electric vehicle (EV) subsystems, which include the battery, motor, controller, chassis, and associated software. They establish and manage communication protocols such as CAN and LIN among these components. Additionally, the engineer conducts precise diagnostics and troubleshooting of faults utilizing diagnostic tools, software, and real-time data.
Maintenance and Optimization: This position encompasses both preventive and corrective maintenance to secure peak performance, efficiency, and safety. Responsibilities include performing routine inspections, system-level testing, and analyzing data to identify potential issues and opportunities for optimization.
Customer and Field Support: The engineer serves as a technical liaison for customers, clarifying complex issues and repair processes. They provide on-site field support for malfunctions and intricate technical challenges, effectively connecting the customer with the service and engineering teams.
Technical Documentation and Reporting:The engineer is responsible for creating and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation, which includes system schematics, integration plans, service reports, and test results. Ensuring accurate records of all service and repair activities, including fault codes and utilized parts, is a vital responsibility.
Safety and Compliance: The engineer is required to strictly follow all safety protocols and regulations, particularly when working with high-voltage components, to ensure a safe working environment.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Education: A Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Automotive Engineering.
Experience: 1.5 to 8 years of experience in the automotive sector, with a strong emphasis on electric vehicles and component-level expertise. Significant hands-on experience in service/diagnostics and system-level integration is preferred.
Technical Knowledge:
- Comprehensive knowledge of EV architectures and powertrain components (battery, BMS, motor, inverter, VCU, MCU).
- Proficiency in automotive communication protocols including CAN and LIN.
- Skilled in using diagnostic tools such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and professional software like Vector Canoe/CANalyzer.
- Strong understanding of vehicle-level software and electronic control units (ECUs).
