Job Title: ETL Architect – Azure Data Platform
Role Summary
The ETL Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing enterprise-scale ETL/ELT solutions using Microsoft Azure data platform services. This role focuses on building scalable, secure, and high-performance data integration architectures capable of processing large and complex datasets across hybrid and cloud-native environments.
The position requires deep expertise in Azure-native data services, data warehousing concepts, performance optimization, and technical leadership across enterprise data modernization initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Data Architecture & ETL Design
- Architect and design scalable ETL/ELT frameworks using:
- Azure Data Factory
- Azure Synapse Analytics
- Azure Databricks
- Define best practices for:
- Data integration
- Data quality
- Error handling and logging
- Performance optimization
- Design star and snowflake schemas for analytical workloads.
- Implement scalable Medallion architecture layers (Bronze, Silver, Gold).
Data Engineering & Pipeline Development
- Develop and maintain complex pipelines to load data into:
- Azure Synapse Analytics
- Azure SQL Database
- Azure Data Lake Storage
- Build high-performance and fault-tolerant batch and streaming pipelines.
- Implement incremental loading and Change Data Capture (CDC) strategies.
Performance Optimization & Scalability
- Optimize database, storage, and query performance for scalability and cost efficiency.
- Implement efficient query strategies for low-latency and high-throughput workloads.
- Monitor and optimize ETL/ELT jobs using:
- Azure Monitor
- Log Analytics
Cloud Migration & Hybrid Architecture
- Architect hybrid and multi-cloud integration solutions using Azure services and Azure Arc.
- Lead migration strategies from on-premises systems to Azure cloud using:
- Azure Database Migration Service
Governance & Security
- Implement governance, security, and compliance frameworks using:
- Microsoft Purview
- Implement:
- Data encryption
- Data masking
- RBAC and managed identities
- Ensure adherence to enterprise data governance standards and security best practices.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers.
- Collaborate with business analysts, data scientists, and stakeholders to design scalable solutions.
- Drive architecture reviews, standards, and engineering best practices.
Required Skills & Experience
Experience
- 12+ years of experience in ETL architecture and data engineering.
- Proven experience designing enterprise-scale Azure data platforms.
Technical Skills
- Strong expertise in:
- Azure Data Factory
- Azure Databricks
- Azure Synapse Analytics
- Azure Data Lake Storage
- Advanced SQL and Spark skills (PySpark / Scala).
- Strong understanding of:
- Data warehousing concepts
- OLTP & OLAP modeling
- Performance tuning in Azure
- Medallion architecture
- Experience with:
- Batch & streaming pipelines
- CDC and incremental loads
- Hybrid and multi-cloud architectures
Governance & Cloud Skills
- Understanding of data governance and security best practices.
- Experience implementing RBAC, encryption, and compliance frameworks.
- Exposure to AWS or GCP is an added advantage.
