Pinegap is an AI-first research company serving US buy-side equity L/S hedge funds, long-only mutual funds, and RIAs - working with 50+ buy-side funds, including the likes of Point72, Balyasny, JP Morgan, Alger, Two Sigma, and Artisan Partners.

Location
Based in Bengaluru; expected to transition to the New York office within 2 years, subject to visa and immigration eligibility.

This Role Is Ideal for Analysts Who Want
• Direct exposure through working with top U.S. buy-side teams (Point72, Balyasny, Engineers Gate, Two Sigma, Alger, Artisan Partners) and Pinegap's growing client base.
• Work with these kinds of people on a day-to-day basis:
◦ PMs at Balyasny and Engineers Gate
◦ Senior research analysts at Two Sigma
◦ CIOs of single-manager hedge funds like Senvest
◦ Some of the best funds on Wall Street - Greenlight Capital, founded by David Einhorn, who shorted Lehman Brothers stock in July 2007 before Lehman filed for bankruptcy

Your Day-to-Day Work Looks Like
• Get on calls with Pinegap buy-side client teams
• Understand their use cases and how they generate alpha
• Solve for those use cases and share sample outputs with PMs on companies in their watchlists
• Once the PM approves the output, explain your methodology to a Pinegap AI engineer and help automate it at scale for all U.S. companies; review the outputs and iterate with the AI engineer
• Move on to the next buy-side workflow or use case

What You Won't Be Doing
No grunt work such as:
• Writing long initiation reports
• Maintaining static Excel models for coverage
• Writing first-take earnings notes
• Updating models and copy-pasting numbers from 10-Qs or press releases into models
• Optimizing for corporate access or report distribution

What Experience You Should Have
• 1–2 years of experience at a sell-side or buy-side equity research firm
• US equities experience (preferred)
• Engineering × Finance or Economics background
• Tier 1 college

Who Should Consider This Role
• You are tired of doing grunt work on the sell side - writing reports, updating models, etc.
• You want to work on buy-side equity research use cases while leveraging next-generation AI technology and working alongside talented AI engineers (IITs/BITs Background) - not just copy pasting data from transcripts and filings
• With the evolution of AI, it's not a question of if but when AI will automate the grunt work done by junior sell-side analysts. You want to be on the disruptor side rather than on the side being disrupted

How This Role Evolves in the Future
• At Pinegap, we are building a central research team across different sectors
• As your experience grows, you will be promoted to Senior Analyst within 1–2 years of experience (YoE), and to Sector Head with 4–5 years of experience in equity research
• Your responsibilities will evolve from working with buy-side teams to also managing analysts within your sector, while continuing to collaborate with buy-side clients
