NextGen is seeking a technical Engineering Manager to lead our Enterprise API Core team into the future. Reporting directly to the Vice President: Enterprise Architecture and Technology Strategy, this Manager will occupy a highly visible role as NextGen continues a company-wide API First transformation.
The manager will work collaboratively with Architecture, Product Management, and other technical leadership to deliver a quality API developer experience and enable our internal API consumers as well as third-party integrators. The manager will take ownership of the software development process, including technical backlog, increasing the Unit and Automation test coverage of the API suite, improving performance, and bringing cloud-first observability principles to production.
The manager will help build up the existing API team as well as recruit and hire R&D team members.
- Recruitment effort and hiring of R&D Team members.
- Encourage professional development, and ensure the presence of appropriate training initiatives within the development team.
- Assist in removing or improving organizational impediments to flow and value delivery.
- Provide guidance and clarification regarding the Agile Mindset and Scrum Practices.
- Provide guidance for all phases of SDLC implementation, including design, coding, testing, and analysis of programs and applications.
- Promote continued learning and self-organization.
- Provide coaching and develop team members through Intent-Based Leadership, guiding them through the different levels of autonomy by growing their competency and clarity of organizational vision.
- Oversee the project status reporting process.
- Monitor development projects to ensure adherence to established objectives, timelines, and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to determine strategic software development.
- Perform other duties that support the overall objective of the position.
Education Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline
- Or, any combination of education and experience that would provide the required qualifications for the position
Experience Required
- 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering
- Team lead or supervisory experience
- Experience in the healthcare IT industry
- Or, any combination of education and experience that would provide the required equivalent qualifications for the position
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of: Thorough knowledge of programming languages, including: Strong knowledge of .NET and .NET Core is critical. React or other modern front-end UI ecosystemsAWS knowledge, especially ECS, EKS, Lambda, S3, and common gateway patterns. Familiarity with API development patterns and techniques such as REST, GraphQL, CQRS. Familiarity with Event-Driven development patternsAI-assisted development practice experience is a plus.
- Skill in: Interpersonal and leadership skills, including an ability to thrive in a team-based environment; communication; analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting; project management skills in the context of software development delivery. Due to the importance of APIs at NextGen, written and verbal communication skills are key for this role. It's especially important to be able to communicate effectively with non-technical roles within the company.
- Ability to: Ability to manage high-performance development. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects across several development teams. Ability to effectively address shifting priorities and demands in a deadline-driven environment.The most successful candidates will be accustomed to balancing planning with flexibility when serving multiple internal and external clients.
