About StoreSmart
StoreSmart™ is Impact Analytics store execution and allocation-review platform. It sits on top of allocation and replenishment engine, giving store associates, managers, and executives a structured, time-bounded workflow to review, edit, and approve system-generated allocations before they're executed — closing the gap between Head Office planning and store-level reality.
The mobile experience is store-associate-facing and must operate reliably in real-world store conditions — including restricted, slow, or intermittent network connectivity — which makes this one of the most technically demanding parts of the platform.
Role Overview
We're looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead mobile engineering for StoreSmart. This is a hands-on leadership role: you'll own the technical direction and delivery of a native Android application built for offline-capable, high-scale store operations, while managing and growing the team that builds it. You'll work closely with Product, Architecture, Backend, and Client Delivery teams under an active client go-live timeline.
This role is foundational — you're building the mobile engineering practice for StoreSmart from an early stage, not maintaining an established one.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the mobile engineering roadmap and architecture for StoreSmart's native Android application, in close partnership with Product and Architecture
- Lead technical decisions on offline-first design: local data persistence, sync strategy, conflict resolution, and graceful degradation on restricted or intermittent networks — this is the platform's primary technical risk area and a core expectation of this role
- Hire, lead, and mentor a mobile engineering team (initial build-out phase), setting technical bar, coding standards, and delivery cadence
- Drive architecture decisions for scalability and reliability at high-SKU, high-transaction-volume store environments
- Own delivery of mobile workstreams against a live client go-live timeline (data sign-offs, UAT, phased rollout)
- Establish mobile engineering practices: code quality, testing (including network-condition simulation/testing), CI/CD, observability, and release processes
- Collaborate with Backend and Architecture teams on API contracts, sync protocols, and cloud infrastructure (GCP)
- Run Agile delivery: sprint planning, backlog grooming, retrospectives, delivery tracking against client-facing milestones
- Communicate technical decisions, risks, and delivery status clearly to senior leadership and client-facing stakeholders
What Lands You In This Role
- 10–15 years overall software engineering experience, including 3+ years directly leading native Android engineering teams (not cross-platform-only)
- Deep, hands-on native Android expertise (Kotlin/Java) — this is a native Android build, not React Native, Flutter, or responsive web. Candidates without direct native Android leadership experience will not be a fit for this role.
- Demonstrated experience architecting offline-capable mobile applications — local storage/sync, conflict resolution, degraded-connectivity handling — ideally in field, retail, logistics, or similarly network-constrained environments
- Experience building and shipping mobile applications at enterprise or multi-location retail scale
- Hands-on experience with GCP (required, not preferred) — this platform runs on Google Cloud
- Strong understanding of observability, APM, and performance tuning for mobile apps and their connected backend services
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional delivery under real client timelines, including managing risk and stakeholder expectations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills — able to present technical tradeoffs to both engineering and business/client audiences
- Strong ownership mindset with attention to reliability and field-conditions quality (this app is used on the store floor, not in an office)
Preferred / Added Advantage
- Prior experience building for retail store operations, field service, logistics, or other environments with real-world network constraints
- Experience integrating AI/agentic features into mobile workflows (e.g., anomaly alerts, contextual recommendations)
- Experience in early-stage or greenfield mobile team build-outs (vs. inheriting an established team)
- Exposure to microservices, event-driven architectures, and API design for mobile-backend int
