Engineering Manager (EM) Full Stack Mobile/Web

About the role

Engineering Managers (EMs) lead engineers across levels and diverse groups who are moving towards realizing Flipkart's vision. They set the direction and long-term vision for the team, and partner with product, business and other stakeholders to realize it. EMs partner with product teams on key business metrics, lead innovative solutions to complex domain problems, and drive agility in execution by leading by example.

This role is for a full stack EM with a mobile/app development background: someone who can go deep on both the app (React Native, WebView) and the Backend for Frontend (BFF) layer in Java, and who builds frameworks that enable other teams rather than building one-off features for them.

Job description

We are looking for a full stack Engineering Manager who thrives on challenging the status quo and driving innovation. You will lead high-impact engineering teams across mobile app development (React Native, WebView) and the Java-based BFF layer, fostering technical excellence, continuous improvement and customer-centric thinking. You will collaborate with product management, data science, UX/UI design and backend engineering to deliver experiences that redefine how customers shop, at Flipkart scale.

A key part of the role is framework engineering: building reusable app frameworks, SDKs and tooling that let other engineers and teams ship faster and safer. We want an enabler mindset (building platforms others build on), not a service mindset (building features on request for other teams).

What you'll do

• Lead, develop and provide hands-on leadership for top-notch engineers and Engineering Managers (EMs) across mobile and BFF.
• Own end-to-end delivery across the app (React Native, WebView) and the Java BFF, ensuring robust, scalable and performant solutions.
• Drive framework engineering: design and evolve reusable frameworks, SDKs and platform capabilities that enable other teams to self-serve.
• Set the strategy to move from a service model to an enabler/platform model, with clear contracts, documentation and adoption metrics.
• Architect app and BFF systems for complex use cases while keeping code simple, with a focus on app performance, startup time, stability and release quality.
• Create clear career paths for team members through regular, deep mentoring; attract and retain top talent with long-term goals in mind.
• Take accountability for key business metrics in your area and act as a thought partner to product, engineering and business operations teams.
• Drive agility in execution, build a culture of responsiveness by leading by example, and own prioritization decisions for better predictability.
• Actively participate in design and code reviews, and contribute individually to coding and prototypes.
• Use user feedback and data to improve app experience, with quick turnaround on feature development and bug fixes.

What you'll need

• B.E / B.Tech or similar qualification with 10+ years of experience building cutting-edge products, including 2+ years in people management.
• Strong mobile/app development background, with deep hands-on expertise in React Native and WebView-based app architectures.
• Strong backend experience in Java, including building Backend for Frontend (BFF) services for high-volume, distributed, high-transaction systems.
• Proven track record in framework engineering: building and scaling frameworks, SDKs or platforms that other engineers and teams adopt, with an enabler (not service) mindset.
• Understanding of the full stack from the app layer to middleware and database layer, and experience architecting on cloud platforms such as AWS.
• Deep understanding of mobile app internals: performance, memory, networking, release and rollout practices, and common app design patterns.
• Strong partnership with product and business teams, with effective collaboration and communication across multiple stakeholders.
