Role Description
We're looking for an Engineering Manager who can own technical outcomes, grow engineers into senior contributors, and make hard calls without waiting for permission.
What you'll own
Technical Leadership
- Translate product vision into clear technical goals, architectural direction, and iterative milestones.
- Review design docs, PRs, and CI pipelinesraising the bar on code quality, testing, and observability.
- Drive adoption of bestinclass patterns (DDD, eventdriven, clean architecture) across Ruby on Rails, React, and cloudnative stacks.
People & Delivery
- Lead 610 engineers (mix of backend, frontend, and DevOps) through daily standups, sprint planning, and quarterly OKR reviews.
- Provide candid feedback, career coaching, and growth plans that turn strong developers into seniorlevel contributors.
- Balance velocity with technical debt paydown; know when to refactor and when to ship and iterate.
Process & Culture
- Champion true continuous delivery, feature flags, trunkbased development, automated QA gates.
- Foster a blameless, data driven incident culture. Run postmortems that actually prevent repeats.Collaborate with Product, UX, and Customer Success to keep stakeholder expectations realistic and aligned.
Strategic Impact
- Partner with the CTO on capacity planning, buildvsbuy decisions, and platform roadmap.
- Monitor engineering KPIs (lead time, deployment frequency, changefailure rate, MTTR) and act on what the metrics reveal.
- Represent engineering in client calls and RFP reviews, translating technical tradeoffs into business value.
Qualifications
- 8+ years in software development, with 4+ years leading engineering teams
- Built and scaled teams of 5+ engineers. Hired, coached, and exited underperformers when necessary.
- Shipped SaaS or data intensive products in cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure)
- Deep understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, and modern DevOps practices
- Strong communication. Can push back on scope creep while keeping morale high.
- Ruby on Rails and/or React experience preferred, but architectural thinking matters more than specific stack

- Experience with AI/ML pipelines or realtime computervision workloads.
- Familiarity with multitenant SaaS security (RLS policies, JWT claims, zerotrust access).
- Exposure to SOC2 or HIPAA compliance environments.
