Engineering Manager

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager (Backend Application Development) to lead the design, development, and delivery of our backend platforms. This role is ideal for a hands-on technical leader who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges while managing a lean, high-performing team of backend engineers.

The individual will play a key role in driving architecture decisions, ensuring engineering excellence, mentoring team members, and collaborating closely with Product, QA, DevOps, and Architecture teams to build scalable and resilient applications.

What You Will Do

• Drive the end-to-end delivery of backend applications and services using Java and Spring Boot.

• Design scalable, secure, and highly available microservices and distributed systems.

• Define and implement backend architecture, design patterns, and engineering best practices.

• Conduct architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical design discussions to maintain high engineering standards.

• Build and optimize RESTful APIs and backend services for performance, reliability, and scalability. • Design and implement event-driven solutions using Apache Kafka.

• Develop and optimize data solutions using SQL and MongoDB.

• Drive application observability, monitoring, logging, and incident analysis using Datadog.

• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Architects, QA, DevOps, and crossfunctional stakeholders to deliver business-critical features.

• Ensure timely delivery through Agile development practices, sprint planning, estimation, and release management.

• Identify opportunities to improve platform performance, reduce technical debt, and modernize existing systems.

• Support hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance development of team members while building a high-performing engineering culture.

What We Are Looking For

• 8–10 years of experience in backend application development, with experience in leading lean engineering teams.

• Strong hands-on programming experience in Java (Java 8 or above).

• Extensive experience with Spring Boot and the Spring ecosystem.

• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, design principles, and software design patterns.

• Proven experience designing scalable microservices and distributed backend systems.

• Solid understanding of application architecture and system design.

• Hands-on experience with relational databases (SQL) and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB.

• Experience with Apache Kafka or other messaging/event-streaming platforms.

• Experience using Datadog for application monitoring, observability, and performance analysis.

• Strong understanding of REST APIs, security best practices, and backend integration patterns.

• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile software development methodologies.

• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

• Ability to balance technical leadership with people management while working with a lean engineering team.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

• Exposure to Docker and Kubernetes.

• Experience building high-throughput, low-latency applications.

• Knowledge of DevOps practices and Infrastructure as Code.

• Experience in the FinTech, digital payments, or high-scale consumer technology domain.

• Passion for mentoring engineers and building high-performing teams.
