Job Description

As an Engineer - Plumbing & Fire Protection, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing the installation of plumbing & fire protection systems for various projects. You will collaborate with a team of professionals, including architects, project managers, and contractors, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of plumbing & fire protection systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Plumbing & fire protection Systems Design: Create detailed designs, plans, and specifications for plumbing & fire protection systems, adhering to local codes and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate Project Requirements: Interpret architectural plans and assess project requirements to determine the appropriate size and scope of plumbing & fire protection systems.
  • Collaborate with Professionals: Work closely with architects, project managers, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to incorporate plumbing & fire protection systems into overall project plans.
  • Conduct Site Visits: Visit construction sites to inspect plumbing & fire protection installation progress and ensure compliance with approved plans and regulations.
  • Oversee Plumbing Installations: Supervise plumbing & fire protection installation activities, providing guidance to contractors and ensuring that installations meet industry standards.
  • Perform Calculations: Conduct plumbing & fire protection system hydraulic calculations, including pipe sizing, pressure drop, and flow rates, to ensure optimal performance and functionality.
  • Troubleshoot Plumbing Issues: Identify and resolve any plumbing system-related problems during construction or after project completion.
  • Stay Updated on Industry Developments: Keep up to date with new plumbing & fire protection system technologies, codes, standards, and emerging trends to enhance design efficiency and system effectiveness.
  • Agree and monitor scope of works with the Local GCC Head of MEP
  • Clearly define building requirements and purpose of use with the Local GCC Head of MEP and WSP HK Team to allow detailed design
  • Undertake technical reviews, peer reviews, checks and contribute to the design
  • Carry out detailed design to WSP, HK Building Regulations and relevant Code of Practice and standards ensuring Construction Design and Management (CDM), QA and technical review and sign off by the Local GCC Head of MEP, including complex calculations and co-ordination issues
  • Develop positive professional relationship with the WSP India HK Team, communicating openly about project progress
  • Deal with the day-to-day queries from the WSP HK Team, ensuring that relevant information is available on time for construction activity
  • Participate in Project meetings, team meetings, disseminate information within the team, and communicate with other teams in WSP India.
  • Report to the WSP HK Team in association with the Local GCC Head of MEP any variance between the works constructed and the design intent
  • Identify and act on, or refer, potential risk issues and follow in full the company commercial and contracting processes
  • Manage delegated tasks to ensure that deadlines are met and flag resourcing concerns to team leader

Qualification & Skills

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field is typically required. Specialization in plumbing engineering is an advantage.
  • Experience: Prior experience in plumbing and fire protection system design, installation, or project management is highly desirable. Should have minimum 4+ Years of relevant experience in design.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Possessing relevant professional certifications and licenses, such as a Professional Engineer (PE) license, demonstrates expertise and enhances credibility.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in using computer-aided design (CAD) software for plumbing system design and possess a good understanding of hydraulic calculations.
  • Knowledge: Strong knowledge of plumbing & fire codes, regulations, and industry standards, including NFPA code, Plumbing Code and International Plumbing Code.

Qualification & Experience

  • Should have a degree in Civil/Environmental/Mechanical
  • 4+ years of technical experience.
