Job Description

Engineer - Process Control Automation (Mechanical Design)

Position Summary

seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Engineer - Process Control Automation (Mechanical Design) to support the design, development, and implementation of automated process systems. The role combines mechanical engineering expertise with process control and automation knowledge to deliver reliable, efficient, and safe industrial solutions.

The engineer will be responsible for mechanical system design, equipment integration, process automation support, and coordination with electrical, instrumentation, and software engineering teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Design & Engineering

  • Develop mechanical designs for automated process systems, equipment skids, machine assemblies, and production lines.
  • Prepare 3D models, assembly drawings, fabrication drawings, and BOMs using CAD tools.
  • Design piping layouts, equipment arrangements, mounting structures, supports, and enclosures.
  • Perform engineering calculations related to mechanical components, fluid systems, pressure drops, and equipment sizing.
  • Review vendor drawings and ensure compliance with project specifications.

Process Control & Automation Support

  • Collaborate with automation and control engineers to integrate mechanical equipment with PLC, SCADA, HMI, and DCS systems.
  • Define process requirements and control philosophies for automated systems.
  • Support actuator, valve, sensor, and instrumentation selection based on process needs.
  • Participate in control loop reviews, process optimization, and system commissioning activities.
  • Assist in troubleshooting mechanical and automation-related issues during startup and operation.

System Integration

  • Coordinate interfaces between mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and software disciplines.
  • Ensure proper integration of:
    • Pumps
    • Compressors
    • Conveyors
    • Heat exchangers
    • Process vessels
    • Packaging systems
    • Material handling equipment
  • Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT).

Documentation & Compliance

  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation including:
    • Mechanical drawings
    • Equipment specifications
    • Datasheets
    • P&IDs
    • Process flow diagrams (PFDs)
    • Design calculations
    • Technical reports
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable safety, quality, and industry standards.
  • Support risk assessments such as HAZOP and FMEA reviews.

Project Execution

  • Participate in project planning, scheduling, and technical reviews.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and manufacturing teams.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and validation activities.
  • Monitor project progress and resolve technical issues in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree / diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

Experience

  • 2-5 years of experience in mechanical design, process engineering, or industrial automation projects.
  • Experience in manufacturing, process industries, automation systems, or industrial equipment design preferred.
